A six year old boy sat at his desk writing down his Christmas list, even though it was months away. A sixteen year old girl sat in chemistry thinking about her latest crush. And a twenty-six year old woman rushed her three year old out of the kitchen after spilling her cereal. Three normal Americans going about their daily lives. That's how the day started out, but soon, chaos.
Families everywhere rushed to pick up their children. A confused first grader, a panicked teenager, and a worried woman. It is September 11th, 2001 and the streets of New York are crowded with people. Screams echo, bouncing of the buildings surrounding them. A plane has hit the first twin tower and America is at a stand still. People sit in their homes watching the news fearing for what else is to come.
Less than an hour later the second tower is hit. A six year old boy wonders why the streets are covered in smoke. A sixteen year old girl tries to contact her father, a firefighter. And a twenty-six year old woman holds her three year old daughter as she cries over her husband, who was at work on the thirty-first floor of the first tower.
America watches the first tower collapse, taking hundreds with it. People jump from the high floors of the second tower before it too, collapses leaving America in shock.
Days pass and all fingers are pointed to Iraq and Afghanistan. Airport security becomes more thorough, and families are waiting to hear any news on the identities of the dead.
Government, the economy, and everything you could think of separated America for years. Then everyone comes together as soon as tragedy strikes. War is declared and troops are sent over seas.
Ten years pass and that very day comes back around. America remembers 9/11 for twenty- four hours before going back to their lives. But some people continue to grieve and remember, and will for the rest of their lives.
A sixteen year old boy sits in history learning about the war on terror and that very day, he is no longer confused. A twenty-six year old girl sits in medical school, her fathers injuries inspired her to become a doctor. And a thirty-six year old, single mother sits at the dinner table with her thirteen year old daughter, who remembers almost nothing about her deceased father.
