I’m watching a little girl, she is playing with a little boy, they’re holding hands and spinning around in circles to see who falls first, the boy always does taking the little girl down with him so she lands on him and doesn’t get hurt, she always looks at him worriedly making sure he’s okay, she loves him I can tell by the way she looks at him, he looks at her the same way.

They get up and run around some more, the run around in the large back yard and climb a tree. I see a necklace fall out from under the girls shirt, on the chain is a jewelled ring, I then recognize the girl and the ring, it’s the same ring, the same necklace, I wear around my neck.

“We’re just going to make a quick stop at Dave’s house okay ?” My dad stated.

“Yeah.” I yawned briefly opening my eyes wondering who Dave was, hoping we wouldn’t be staying too long I was getting tired and wanted to go to our new house and sleep. We pulled into the long driveway of a huge house that looked vaguely familiar, flashes of little kids playing and hiding in the trees went through my mind, my curiosity piqued and my sleepiness was forgotten as I followed my dad up to the front door.

Before my dad even knocked a woman came flying out the door and wrapped her arms around me.

“Corinne!” She cried and a boy followed out behind her, he had a surprised look on his face when he saw me and he looked away, what was that all about ?

“Uh-uhm .. He-hello.” I hesitated.

“It’s been so long since we’ve seen you, please come inside.” she ushered us in.

“Yes , indeed it has.” My dad sighed “How are you Judy ?”

“I’m good, even better now, Dave’s in the back, he’ll be thrilled to see you.” She spoke happily and didn’t let go of me, the boy walked upstairs and I heard a door shut behind him.

“so, Judy ? How long has it been since you saw me ? I barely remember this place.” I looked around at everything that seemed so unfamiliar.

“let us not dwell on the past and show you to your room.” She pulled me up the stairs the way the boy went.

“My room ?” I spoke confused

“Did he not tell you? Oh Ben always waited last minute before saying stuff, you’ll be staying with us.” She laughed and opened a door to show the boy.

“James, you remember Corinne don’t you?” He smiled slightly and nodded

“Judy !” A mans voice floated up the stairs.

“Coming!” she called back. “James can you show Corinne around ?”

“Sure mom,” He replied and she walked off, he closed the book that was on his lap and patted the space beside him. I went and sat beside him awkwardly.

“Hello.”

“Hey Corrie.” He said the nickname affectionately “I bet you don’t remember me.” He smiled sadly and looked down at the cover of the book “I’m James by the way.” He laughed.

“Hi James.” I smiled at him “what’s in the book?”

“Pictures, memories, of .. My friend.” He looked at me and stood up. “I’ll show you to your room.”

“Okay.” I followed him out of the room and across the hall, he opened the door.

“This is where you’ll be, it’s outdated so we can go tomorrow and get you newer stuff.” He looked around the room and then at me.

“Okay, sounds good, now care to tell me why I’m living with you guys?"
