Aurobindo was tapping the steering wheel, wrapped up in his thoughts. Obviously all of us were plagued with the same thought as to what actions should we be taking; should we go back to the headquarters located here in the city or should we head to some hotel and stay?
"What do we do then? Headquarters or hotel?" I finally asked.
"I don't think going to the HQ is a good idea. All our efforts and energy have gone down the drain, so before they start badgering us again I think we should rest and go there with a fresh state of mind. It will help us in understanding things better and analyzing the situation from different angles." He said with his usual matter-of-fact tone.
He had a point. I was snappy and was having a lot of mood swings because of this lack of sleep; and the adrenaline rush had drained me of every every ounce of energy that I possessed. It was a wonder that I could still walk.
Aarav was silent throughout. We finally checked into a hotel named Savana and got ourselves two rooms. Abby and Aarav planned on going to the restaurant to have something and offered me to join in. I turned them down.
"You haven't had anything to eat, Siya." Abby reminded me with a stern look.
"Calm down, Abby. You really think I will go to sleep without food? I'll just order something in. Just chill a bit. Now bye." I replied with a slight smile reminding my best friend about my love for food. After bidding them both goodnight, I headed for my room. I secured the lock as soon as I entered my room with my small travel bag in my other hand and jumped on my bed; determined to sleep like the dead.
* * *
There was a constant nagging in the back of my mind, a restlessness that prevented me from sleeping and so totally frustrated with myself I sat up. I took a swig of water from the bottle kept on the bedside table and called up room service. I didn't care if it was 1 in the morning. I wanted food. After ordering Chicken Hakka Noodles and Spring Rolls, I let my mind drift off to today's events and its minute details as I waited for my food to arrive.Those 'bodyguards' didn't add up to the equation. She didn't know that we were coming for her. Maybe she liked to be prepared. Could be. Having the kind of life that she had and the threats that she was surrounded with, having bodyguards was only sensible. I wish we had any clue as to who they were.
Just as I was about to switch on the television, somebody knocked on the door. "Room service!" The person yelled. Gosh! Why was there a need to yell? It was 1:30 a.m. He was sure to get chided by others. I went to open the door and let him in. After the waiter was done with assembling the crockery and dishes on the coffee table, I handed him his tip and he left.
I sighed. Food. My solution to stressful situations. I devoured all of it as I watched some crappy sitcoms on the television to keep my mind off thought about work.
After I was done with my late night dinner, I made sure that the lock was secure and then I crawled back in my bed. I snuggled in the soft sheets and pillows and slowly lost myself to dreams. Wishing for good dreams that I knew will never come true in the bitter real world.
