"Oh my God, Rick. You killed him!" she cried.
The woman gave her a wicked grin, "Pity. He was hot."
Lani wanted to strangle the bitch where she stood, but she needed to help Rick. The woman made a hasty exit. Lani couldn't worry about her now. She dragged Rick out of the chair and laid him on the floor.
She had been taught CPR years ago by her dad but she never had reason to try it out, before now.
Tilting his head back she pinched his nose and started mouth to mouth. She alternated between that and chest compressions.
"Come on Rick, please," she sobbed.
It had been too long, how long was it before someone developed brain damage? Three, four minutes?
Rick gave a sudden gasp and began breathing on his own. Lani collapsed in tears.
"Lani?" Rick said, his voice weak, "What's going on?"
"Don't move. I need to call a doctor," Lani said.
She grabbed the phone off the desk. Rick tried to sit up but he could barely raise his head off the floor. The phone was dead.
"What the fuck is going on in this town?" Lani cried.
"Lani, why can't I move? What happened?" Rick asked.
"I don't know, maybe we should ask your girlfriend," Lani snapped. She waved a hand at his pants which were still lying open.
He struggled to zip himself up. Lani hooked him under the arms, managing to drag him up into his chair.
"The phones are down, I should probably drive over to the doc's place or maybe we should go straight to the hospital," Lani said.
Rick grabbed her arm," Lani what is going on?"
He looked terrified, but she couldn't even look at him. How could he do this to her? After last night? She never thought he would be capable of something like this.
"I walked in on you and her," she said.
He looked bewildered, "The last thing I remember, I was filling out paperwork and someone rang the bell on the front desk. Then I was on the floor."
"She was giving you a blowjob. Why are you trying to deny it?" Couldn't he just man up and admit what he had done?
"What? No. I wouldn't do that, Lani," he said, reaching for her hand.
She pulled her hand out of his reach and swallowed hard, "She obviously did something to stop you breathing. Did you take something?"
"No. I don't know what happening. I can hardly move. I feel like I have a monster dose of flu."
"You need to get to a hospital."
"I need to tell Palmer first."
"How? Where is he?"
"I don't know, he went out on a call earlier. Try the radio in the corner."
Lani uncovered it under some discarded pizza boxes. This place was a pig sty. She picked up the mic and pressed the talk button.
"Hello, Sheriff Palmer. This is Lani Scott at the station please respond. Over."
She waited for an answer, "Lani? Why are you at the station? Where is Rick? Over."
"Alec? He's here. He can hear you. Is the Sheriff with you? Over."
"No, the last I heard he was checking out a disturbance at the McGinley farm. I'm out on Route 4. I found Trent Beckett."
