I sat upright in my bed holding my chest, my heart was racing and I could not seem to catch my breath. I felt completely terrified and I knew it was my dream that made me feel this way, but I could not seem to remember a single detail of it. My phone suddenly began to ring which made me jump, "Wow Jayde calm down your going crazy" I laughed to myself. I grabbed my phone off of my nightstand and smiled when I looked at the caller I.D. "Hey Kate whats up?" I asked my best friend answering the phone. She screamed into the phone causing me to quickly pull it away from my ear "HAPPY BIRTHDAY JJ!!!"
I talked to Kate for a few more minutes till I finally convinced her that I had to go. I got out of bed immediately having to grab the wall for support, because the room started spinning. Closing my eyes I concentrated on my breathing until the room steadied. Letting out a sigh of relief I walked over to the bathroom to brush my teeth and get ready for my morning jog. Once I was dressed and had my I-Pod strapped to my arm and my heart rate monitor on I walked down the stairs heading towards the kitchen.
Entering the kitchen I noticed both of my parents sitting at the table not speaking just staring at each other, the tension in the room was erie. Neither one of them noticed that I walked into the room, I had to say something the silence was beginning to make me nervous. "Umm... morning" I said grabbing an apple and leaning against the counter. They both jumped at the sound of my voice but quickly regained their composure "morning honey" my mom said standing up and giving me a hug. "Happy Birthday" she smiled at me but it never reached her eyes. "Happy birthday honey" my dad said from his seat, not bothering to get up from the table.
There was defiantly something wrong here, "What's going on is something wrong?" I asked looking back and forth between my parents. "No sweetie everything in fine" my mother was always an awful liar. I just decided to let it go, I needed desperately to get out of the house for a while. "Well ok... I'm going to go for a jog then; I'll be back in a couple hours". My mom suddenly grabbed me and pulled in for a tight embrace, out of the corner of my eye I also saw my dad get up from the table. My mom pulled away but did not let go of me, she was crying, "Bye baby, I love you". My dad than also hugged me and whispered in my ear "I love you honey".
I looked at my parents like they had twelve heads, suddenly feeling like I was trapped in an episode of The Twilight Zone. "Mom, Dad chill I'll be back in a couple hours. Why are you crying?" My mom wiped the tears from her face, opening her mouth like she wanted to say something but than she quickly changed her mind. "It's just that you're getting so big, I can't believe you are finally eighteen. It's just that it went by so fast," my dad said quickly cutting my mom off. "Ok well I'm going to get out of her, I'll see you guys in a little bit." I turned away from them and had to refrain myself from running out of the house, they were just acting so weird.
I usually enjoyed jogging, it always helps me think and clear my mind when I needed it but today it was not helping at all. This whole day has just been so odd, and its still early I thought smiling to myself. To top it all off I just have not felt right all day, from my dizzy spell this morning to the weird feeling I have in the pit of my stomach. I absolutely hate when I get this feeling, the last time it happened my grandfather passed away. Suddenly I stopped dead in my tracks, oh my god what if something happened to someone, what if that is what was wrong with my parents and they did not want to tell me about it because it was my birthday. No they would not keep something like that from me I convinced myself. Finally I turned around a began to jog home.
Walking into my house I locked my front door behind me, I hate being home alone it always puts me on edge. My parents must have gone out because I did not see their cars in the driveway. I grabbed a protein shake out of the fridge, taking a sip I walked over to the mirror to fix my hair. I pulled my long dark brown almost black hair out of its hair tie and combed my fingers through it. I looked at my tired face in the mirror; I must have gotten less sleep than I thought. I was beginning to get dark circles under my deep jade eyes. That is how my parents came up with my name, ever since the day I was born I have had the most beautiful deep jade colored eyes. I get compliments on them all of the time, usually people think they are contacts. I then noticed the reflection of a note sitting on the kitchen table, so I walked over and picked it up. The paper had water stains all over it.
Jayde,
Baby we are so sorry that this happened. Your father and I love you more than you could ever imagine, that is why we had to leave we could not bare to see you go. We never wanted this to happen but you know more than anyone that you cannot fight fate. Sweetie I am so sorry that we cannot be there right now for you and I really hope that some day we will get to see you again. Please do not forget that we will always love you and we want nothing more than for you to be happy. You must do what you are told and remember to always keep and open mind. I do not want anything to happen to you. Baby we are so sorry.
Love always,
Mom & Dad
"Would you care for me to elaborate?" I spun around wide eyed in the direction of the deep masculine voice. He stood at my front door; I would have thought he was totally sexy if I was not completely terrified. "How did you get in her?" I asked trying to keep my voice steady. He simply held up a set of my house keys like it was no big deal. Completely terrified I began to back up towards the kitchen until my back came in contact with the counter. "Who are... you need to leave", the man took a step forward' tilting his head to he side his eyes raking up and down my entire body "I can't do that Jayde".
I felt my mouth drop open, "how do you... who are.... What do you want"? My mind racing, not even able to come up with a complete sentence. My eyes searching the entire house trying to remember the layout, looking for an escape route. He was still in front of the door which is also by the steps leading upstairs. The back door has a bolt lock on it, which coincidentally only my father has the key to. Great.... I'm screwed. What was he planning on doing, oh my god what if he was going to kill me. Taking a deep breath I promised myself that I was not going to go down without a fight. "I want you Jayde, I am here to take you with me".
My head is shaking back and forth but I have absolutely no control over it. Shifting my gaze to the ground I whisper, "No, please". Feeling like I am going to throw up I finally remember what I told myself, not without a fight. I lift my focus to look him straight in the eyes, "NO!". I'm off running as fast as I can towards the stairs, the second my feet touch the bottom step I feel two strong arms around my waist pulling me back. I suddenly feel my back hit the wall' caught between that and my capture, "I swear to God I'll scream if you don't let me go". I begin trying to force myself out of his grasp, "let me go!" The man holds both of my arms at the sides against the wall.
"Jayde you need to calm down", he then puts his face into the side of my neck. He trails his nose from my ear down to my collarbone. I cannot help thinking this is it he is going to kill me, terrified my heart is pounding, I feel him tense into my neck. Through his teeth I hear him say to me "You NEED to calm down NOW", this is it I need to get away now. I ram my knee into his groin area, he does not even flinch. Sighing he lifts his head to look at me' I can see the anger in his eyes. "I didn't want to have to do this Jayde.... Sleep" and against my will my eyes flutter closed and I drift away into the blackness.
