Before Jorelia knew what she was doing, she had turned on her heel, running out as fast as she could out of the cabin and away from where the Prince was waiting for her to return.
What is this pain that I feel? She asked herself, running as her free hand rested on her chest, her eyes continuing to burn as her vision slowly blurred like getting drunk on a celebrating night. Though this was much worse than the morning after.
Not being able to see, Jorelia had crashed into another body, plummeting to the ground on top of the person who stopped her feet. Hands grabbed at her to hold her still as her eyes closed tight from the burning sensation before the giant hands grabbed at her tiny shoulders, holding her as someone yelled her name.
“Make this stop, make this burning stop!” She called out, pleading for someone to kill her for the first time ever, before the voice of the person who stopped her dead in her tracks continued.
“Jorelia, calm down! What happened?” That voice, the same voice that Jorelia had heard so many times, and never acknowledged the sound of it before, until now. “You’re… You’re crying.”
Darion’s hands kept a tight grasp on the girl’s shoulders as he scanned her face. Normally, Jorelia would have no emotion showing within her expressions or even eyes. But this was an overflow of so many emotions now. Confusion swept over Darion as he stared at her, not sure what to do.
Jorelia’s eyes opened to see his face, her hands clenched in fists as the pain seeped through her body. The pain was too much for her, this pain was much different than any she had felt before in her life.
Her vision was blurred until Darion’s hand swept over her face, wiping at the water that poured out her eyes. For the first time, now, Jorelia could see his eyes and face clearly. The eyes that she had always looked past, without any regret, or sorrow, or any emotion at all pierced into her like the sword had done to the woman before.
“Calm down. Please.” Darion spoke softly, looking at the terrified face of this female. This one female that he looked upon as if they grew up together. “Tell me what happened.” His eyes scanned for any wounds or bleeding on the girl, but finding none, his curiosity grew.
The girl’s lungs heaved for air as she tried to calm herself down. “The Prince… Told me to go inside to the jail cabin…” Having to pause to catch another take of breath to continue again. “And there was a woman, who I apparently knew when I was a little girl… And she took care of me, and I killed her.”
Darion shook his head, trying to understand how she was explaining the story. “Did the Prince tell you that you knew her or…?” His sentence went off as Jorelia shook her head as her body trembled. “Well then the woman told you… She obviously was lying trying to get some type of sympathy like this. Don’t worry about it.” He finally finished, shaking her shoulders lightly to get her to relax.
“Right. I guess I was… Having a blonde moment.” Jorelia spoke, her voice shaking as her hands rubbed against her arms.
Darion chuckled softly and nodded to her before standing up straight again. “Come on then, we better get back to the King.” His tone changed this time, not into the exact emotionless as she expected, though Jorelia could sense annoyance from the man.
Looking up to him, Jorelia nodded and stood, shaking herself off to leave behind any emotion that might have been still there as the two Death Knights walked back to Death’s Breech.
~~
The walk had been silent the whole time, though as they approached Death’s Breech, they saw the King standing at the side, watching as the ghouls and Death Knights went around and setting fire to any bodies they could see and didn’t have the King’s pet dragon eat.
