The prospect of having to deal with overbearing parents and traditional values was not very appealing to Baekhyun. Sure, he liked being able to mingle with people who think he's the best thing since sliced bread (they act all too well), but following through traditions for the sake of doing so or sowing a benefit that was not for him at all were unheard of. However, he was the heir of one of Korea's biggest conglomerates, he should have expected this.
But then again, Baekbom was supposed to be the scapegoat of all of this!
"How was the marriage interview, Sir Baekhyun?"
Baekhyun tried to look fine even though a storm is brewing inside of him. Yixing doesn't deserve to be the whipping boy for all of his frustrations regarding his parents' inability to keep their noses in their own business and not interrupt their youngest son's penchant for free will and independence. The guy was too nice and innocent for that. Therefore he tries to appear 'fine' to the best of his abilities.
"He didn't show up! The motherfucker didn't show up!" Baekhyun saw Yixing's default smile morph upside down. The image was interesting, but it also made him feel bad.
"I'm sorry to hear that, sir. Hopefully, the next interview is going to be a success."
"If he stands me up again, I'm breaking off this marriage."
Yixing doesn't address Baekhyun's absolute lack of power to call the marriage off. He knows, and he doesn't mention. Baekhyun is so lucky to have him. Why can't he marry Yixing instead? Oh, right. His parents still think marriage has the power to bind people to other people and their property. Apparently, they don't know about the existence of prenups to this day.
He sees his butler purse his lips in the rearview mirror, a rare show of uncertainty and worry he was not used to see on the dependable male.
"The Park Industries seems fixated on getting the Byun Corporation to merge with them. It's unfortunate, but it's highly unlikely your parents will allow termination of the contract."
Baekhyun sighs in defeat, a blank disappointed look plastered on his face as he leans back on the leather seat and preoccupies himself with the sight of tall bulldings and skyscrapers.
"You're right, Yixing. After all, marriage is just a contract."
"I'm sorry, sir."
The car was filled with muteness, there was only a slight hum as the limousine breezed through roads blessed with the light traffic of exclusive lanes. Baekhyun doesn't do his tick of tapping his manicured nails on the tinted glass, so Yixing wasn't too worried at first. The slight narrowing of the smaller male's eyes gave him away instantly and someone who's been serving him for a decade will see through him easily.
"Do not fret, sir. In the event you decide to circumvent the wedding date, I would be happy to assist in holding off the ceremony."
"This is why I love you, Yixing. Marry me?"
"I'm afraid that is outside of my area of expertise. Do you want to set up a craigslist ad?"
Chanyeol wasn't too fond of the idea of forced marriages. Hell, he doesn't even like the idea of getting married. Or weddings. It was nothing but a societal and moral obligation. The notion of being able to officialize partnership with someone with a marriage ceremony made no sense. It should just be contract signing, no fancy feasts which involved feeding people who leech too much from you and try to kiss your ass so they can accomplish a bit of networking and people who pretend they care only to give you an empty envelope as a wedding present. These days, marriages are just about showing off and keeping face.
