It wasn't easy staying in Japan. Not because it was hot or anything, mostly because I get no time to enjoy myself. and there is nowhere to really enjoy myself, being stuck on a small humid fishing island with a Hodge podge excuse for a military base on the edge of nowhere isn't exactly how I wanted to spend my vacation.
It was early morning around 6 am, I was fully prepped and ready for a fight that was guaranteed to not come. I went straight to the barracks after speaking with the company commander, getting our orders on exactly where to patrol. instead of trotting through the dense jungle with our thumbs up our asses we were supposed to patrol the two local villages on the island. some hearts and minds crap or something like that, too bad no one in my lot speaks Japanese. I walked into the barracks and released a loud stomp "drop your cocks and grab your socks ladies some of us have to work for a living so lets move out" I shouted as my squad mates slowly came to. they definitely weren't quick about it and they didn't plan to speed up anytime soon. me and those 5 men had been through a lot, fighting in two proxy wars together in the second Russian occupation in Afghanistan in 2018 to help bring 'stability' to the Region. As my men prepared for the day I heard a rather familiar and annoying voice from behind "oi Ramirez, I don't know what time it is in Toronto, but in England, its still sleep time" it was Sergeant Jackson of the 4th Battalion, a real prick thinking his jump wings and accent made him the cleanest cut of the earth. After ignoring him I trotted away standing outside the barracks where the sun even at 6 am sharp was enough the cook an egg on any mans forehead. my lot stumbled outside and lined up in the usual order, Pile, Cortez, Marshall, Jeremiah, and Zachary, scruffiest bunch you could know. I smiled "morning ladies, and aren't you all looking beautiful this sunny morn" to which they responded with a groan before Cortez decided to speak "fuck off Ram its to early for this shit... whats the brass got us doing today?" he asked curiously, everyone else was intrigued to know the answer. I looked them all over for a moment before deciding to speak "Cortez your fly is down, Marshall take off that Yankee cap before I burn it, Pile you look like a load of steaming shit and Jeremiah you look perfect as usual" I said in response to them all sternly "once you lot have shown me what a real Canadian soldier looks like we are going to be doing a foot patrol of the local villages" they all looked at each other confused "what so we can find the Chinese invaders" Marshall said sarcastically "yeah like any of us could tell the difference..." said Pile brushing the comment off as they all turned and began to head back inside, I placed my helmet atop my head "front gate 15 minutes, don't make me drag you lot" I said in a commanding voice as the Brits started to flood out, they doubled us in numbers but were still led by one prick "looks like you boys got the villages today, good luck its nothing you lot shouldn't be able to handle, but watch out I heard one of the fisherman help a pistol once" he said in a mocking tone to which I shook my head slumping my rifle behind my back "oh Jackson... I fucking hate you more than anyone in this entire planet" I said with a smug grin, he smirked "even Putin?" I chuckled "especially Putin you dried up turd" I walked away and made for the front gate waiting for my boys to join me
promptly they showed up late but fully geared up and ready for a fight "did you boys get lost on the way to the snack machine?" I joked "of course not you know Pile he picks his candy like he picks his ladies" Marshall Laughed "slowly and carefully?" Cortez responded "like a catholic priest" Jeremiah Chimed in "alright stow it, we have work to do" I said watching their faces change " today our job is to go to the local villages and establish connections inside town, to show the people here we came with good intentions, now load up check your weapons and start marching, we have two villages to visit both an hour away on foot" I said in a demanding tone as I started to march the rest of them following close behind. not to long after did one of them dare to break the silence "Ramirez...none of us speak Japanese, what exactly are we going to do to win em over?" Pile asked "we will figure it out once we get there, that's what we do, we are problem solvers" I said not fully convinced of the words myself "hearts and minds pile... hearts and minds..." Jeremiah said in a sarcastic tone.
