Chapter 1 -Just THE Dance

I went home driving in my sporty red car and started getting ready for this evening's events. I was so excited to go to the dance with the love of my life. He's always so sweet to me. He's never late for anything, holds my hand and waits for me after every class. He's the perfect gentleman with just enough mischeviousness to let me know he loves me. He's such a flirt and plays with my hair all the time. Every morning he complements me and ruffles my hair a little, and I just pout and poke the end of his nose. Honestly, I don't care as long as he keeps touching me. And he's so sweet with his dimpled smile...he drives me insane.

So, tonight I got the perfect dress for the after occasion I wanted to surprise him with. Jamie would be so excited, I know he's been waiting for it sense the day we started dating. I put on the creamy white dress I picked out. It's got a stooped neckline with spaghetti straps, and it has corsetted ribbon making silver flowers around the top til my waist. Then the flowers fade away and silver sparkles from the bottom of the hem up to my knees. I slip on my silver heels to match the night. I pull my curled, strawberry blonde hair over one shoulder and pin the other half the rest of the way over with a hair piece my grandfather gave me after my grandma passed. It's beautiful and completes the dress perfectly, and keeps her close to me.

After checking and rechecking the makup I put on, and making sure the glittered nail polish was dry, I hurried downstairs. I checked the clock and it was exactly 8:00. Perferct! He'll be here any minute. Just then, I heard the knock on the door. My mother rushed from the kitchen, and my dad came down the hall smiling at me. So he thought it wasn't too much? Good!

I fought back the butterflies that told me I could trip walking down the rest of the stairs, or worse that I was rushing things...But I didn't listen. As soon as his eyes met with me, I was a gonner. Jamie was in the doorway looking over my outfit breifly and smiling at my eyes. His face was glowing, and I'm sure mine was too. It was just last year at this very dance where he asked me to go out with him. He moved here that summer, and we became friends. I liked him much more than just that, but it was embarassing. He is just....perfect. Jamie is amazing and he looks yummy so you have the personality and the looks.

I can't stop the smile that sketches onto my face and his grows even more. I'm blushing profusely by the time I look away. Though I'm ginger, I'm thankful for the pale skin that barely gives away my blushes. However, I know that Jamie knew just how flustered I was. I moved toward him and my mother took our picture by the stairs.

It seemed like Jamie and I could dance together endlessly. Neither of us were very good dancers, and I obviously was not going  hard core in those shoes. Yet, it was fun. Jamie and I didn't have to be at a party to know how to do it right. We laughed together when the music was over. Jay grabbed my hand and he pulls me close to his chest. For a moment he just held me and smiled. I couldn't help but notice how perfect it all was. Then, he was suddenly rushing of the dance floor with me close behind. He had my hand wrapped in his. Before I realized it we were outside.

Nobody else could be seen in the shadowed night time. And Jamie got down on his left knee, still holding  my hand. He got something small, and square from his pocket and I didn't know what to do, what to say, or how to react.

"Rachel, I know that you hope that I'll stay yours forever. I know that you've been asking me everyday since we started dating, and I've known every second from the moment I saw you that I would be. You have me in more ways than you'll ever know, because you're my world.

"I can't imagine a life where I didn't meet the girl with the most beautiful eyes, and the easiest smile to love. I want to know that I never have to again. I know we're still young, but God gave me you and I want you to know that I can't loose you. I want you to accept this as a promise. A promise to you, Rachel Renee Ridgley, that you don't have to hope again. From this day on, you and I will both know that our future together has no limit."

Jamie opened the small, gray box in his hand and pulled out the ring to represent his promise. I had tears in my eyes that were the sign of my absolute bliss. I felt my heart stop at every word he said. I felt my cheeks burn with all the smiling I was doing, and I felt -in my heart- that something perfect just happend. This is the only thing I needed to know that tonight was the right night for me to do what we've both been waiting for.

"Of course, Jamie Kenneth Robberts." I smiled at his name and these words felt like the only things I would ever mean in such honesty. "I can't imagine a forever without you either." With that Jamie slipped the promise ring onto my right hand.

I marvelled at the precious, little white stones that lead into swirls two swirls on either side of my light blue birthstone of March 29, 1991. The little square little stones of swirls, turned into two flowers on either side of my Aquaries stone. In the center of the flowers were much smaller versions of the blue stone. It was encased in a silver finishing, and I couldn't imagine the price of something like this.

"Look on the inside." Jay told me, and I did. It had his initials with a heart, and then my own too, along with today's date. "Happy anniversery," Jay said. I kissed him and he swept me into his arms.

*****

The night was gorgeous and warm, and it was perfect. The full moon gave a clear veiw as Jamie and I left the dance early. My line backer was carrying me through the parking lot and we laughed. We were both high off the night, and I couldn't stop looking at his beautiful eyes. They were like the sea, they moved with a wave of emotions, and the way they swam with happiness everytime they looked back at mine like they were right now...I blush again and giggle a little.

We walked to a park large park a few blocks away from where the dance is still going on. I lay down in the grass with Jay looking at me, he's so sweet. I stare at the stars and hold on to the solitude we share. The serenity of all the feelings he gives me has me excited for what I'm about to do.

"Jay?" I asked Jamie with the nickname I gave him after we became friends.

"What is it Ray?" He asked me his cute dimples appearing with the grin he flashed. He reaches for my hand. We intertwine our fingers and I turn my eyes to the starry night.

"I wanted to ask you...this way I can show you..." I didn't know how to tell him what I'm trying to say. He's my best friend did he understand? I have to make sure. "I love you, Jamie." I tell him. I do everyday at least twice, and every morning. I tell him when I feel it though. I think too many couples make a habit out of reminding the other one they're there, but I want him to know it's always the truth. I want him to know he's special.

"I know baby, we can take it slow though. You don't have to do this if you don't want to." Jamie is trying not to make me feel uncomfortable about it, but he doesn't realize that all I want is to give myself to him forever.
