He tunes his radio, filtering through the static stations to find one to listen to that will fit his current state of mind.
He remembers Ryan's face, he became so unrecognisable when he was drunk. This became ever more frequent the longer Brendon stayed with his boyfriend.
He remembers the glint the glass gave as the light reflected from it, so beautiful. The shards showcasing their elegant razor edges that refracted light like cut crystal.
He remembers the pain. It bloomed like a flower, it's petals unfurling into his every nerve as it came into contact with his temple.
That's where his memory cuts out, he must have been knocked out by the blow. When he did resurface he grabbed his keys and left. Not a thought spared for any of his possessions or the memory of the Ryan that once was. He got into his car and drove, he may have been crying but the only indication being from the burn of salt he felt as the wind outside bit into his skin.
As he neared the highway he was fully aware that sobs were raking his body, making it difficult to focus on the road. He closed his eyes for a brief moment to recollect his thoughts but this only allowed new, more venomous ones to seep their way into his mind. He could pull the wheel, end his pain, forget Ryan's alcoholism. But then he would never find his forever, he had always dreamed of finding the one. His mother always spoke of his father so fondly, from childhood Brendon had decided that's what he wanted, his forever. He thought he had found it in Ryan, the way he looked at Brendon, but he soon realised that he looked to the bottom of a bottle with more passion than he ever had Brendon.
He reopened his eyes, the road ahead blurred with tears, he blinked rapidly to clear them.
He began to see the sleek black object hurtling towards them, he hadn't pulled the wheel, he just swerved. He wasn't going to ever see the eyes of his forever for the rest of his life, just the back of his eyelids.
He didn't feel the collision with the car but he did the weightless after effect. His he felt his seatbelt slacken as he floated mid air for what seemed an eternity. He felt the sudden slam and crack of his own neck into the headrest but there was no pain. He felt disjointed and his eyelids flutter shut.
He heard sirens and jumbled shouting
"I need morphine, 25 milligrams and a neck brace ASAP!"
"His pulse is dropping"
"The morphine isn't taking effect he's flat lining"
Then he heard nothing.
