Two clubs, both alike in dignity
In fair Vermont High, where I lay my scene,
From newfound grudge break to new mutiny,
Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean.
From forth the fatal loins of these two foes,
A pair of star crossed lovers disparage their rights
Whose misadventured piteous overthrows,
Doth with their expulsion bury their sponsors' strifes.
The fearful passage of their expulsion-marked love,
And the continuance of their sponsors' rage,
Which, but their children's transfer, naught could remove,
Is now twenty and five chapters' traffic of my page,
The which if you with patient eyes attend,
What here shall miss, my toil shall strive to mend.
Jamie and Robert both belong to the Vermont High Shakespearean Club. But the club has split in two over a harsh disagreement over the correct interpretation of Romeo and Juliet. One side believes that it is a cautionary tale about the stupidity of youth and shallow lust. The other believes that it's a beautiful tragedy about poisonous hatred conquered by love
Although both have a neutral stance on the matter, they are pulled to opposing sides. In the beginning, neither really care for the other; but then, they start falling for each other and all hell breaks loose.
