"This ain't fair," Happy complained. "Me and Ror against Jax and Juice? Bullshit."
"Thanks for the vote of confidence," Rory playfully shoved Happy. "We got this baby."
"Yeah we do," he growled. Roughly he grabbed her and kissed her, his fingers gripping her ass in plain view.
"We don't have to..." Juice said jokingly as he and Jax waited, impatiently, for the Lowmans to separate.
Jax gave him a dark look but quickly broke into a laugh. "Come on," he whined. "Jesus, we're gonna be waiting all night."
Flipping them off, Happy pulled himself away from Rory. He and Jax checked the ball and the game began. The four of them tripped, slipped, tumbled and fouled more times than anyone could count before the score reached double digits.
"I'm done," Rory hissed as she rolled up her jeans to inspect the damage done to her knees. "I'm sore enough as is, but it's been fun."
"What the hell is wrong with us?" Jax asked as they wiped their faces and headed toward the clubhouse.
Happy shrugged, unaffected by their unusually clumsy game, when Rory passed them wearing a goofy smile. "We're getting old, guys. You seem to be oblivious, but we are old as shit."
"I'll show you old," Happy swatted at her as she disappeared into the clubhouse.
"I'll be right there," Jax hollered to them as he stopped to answer his phone.
He was feeling good, everyone was safe and Happy seemed to enjoy his family slowly easing into club life again but Tara was about to ruin it. The conversation was brief but it happened in slow motion.
"There's a bomb Jax. Get them out. Now."
Without missing a beat, he raced back into the clubhouse and immediately had everyone to clear out. Instantly women and kids scattered while the others hurried them along. There was no timeframe or solid proof but no one questioned him. Bobby cleaned out the safe, a file of the club's important paperwork and lockbox of cash while Happy bolted for the apartment where his children were sleeping.
"Emma get Asher and go," he grumbled, rudely yanking at her ear buds.
"What?" She sneered, defiant and petulant as Rory gathered Knox's medicine and the small supply kit for his head wound. "What's up?"
"We gotta go." Rory snapped as Happy scooped Knox gently into his arms. "Get him."
Emma knew the tone and the look in her mother's eyes. Without another word she grabbed Asher and followed her parents out of the apartment and out to the lot.
They waited, all eyes glued expectantly on the clubhouse, but nothing happened. Happy still had Knox in his arms as he spoke with Jax in hushed tones.
"What the fuck is going on?"
Jax relayed the story back, his mind beginning to wander as he mused over how true it all could be, and Happy nodded in agreement. "For a second I thought this was some fucking joke," he admitted.
"How the fuck did someone get a bomb in OUR clubhouse anyway?"
An exhausted sigh left Jax as they stood staring at the clubhouse as he searched his brain for some theory but he kept coming up blank. "So what, we call the bomb squad?" He joked and just as the last syllable left his lips the clubhouse erupted into a fiery blaze. The burst of explosives rocked the group and sent them all to the cement, car alarms rang out and the kids began to cry as smoke billowed out and the heat from the fire hit them mercilessly.
