A few days had passed and slowly things returned to some semblance of normal. It would never be the same, they were all altered or soon would be, by the events that has unfolded and were already in process.
"Mom?"
"Yeah, sweetie?"
"Can Abel come over?"
Rory looked at Emma and shook her head. The last thing she wanted was those two getting tangled up especially with what was coming.
"Sorry, I uhh, need you to watch the boys tonight."
She pouted. "Can he help?"
"No," Rory laughed. "That is the last thing your father needs to know about, it's inappropriate. You're too young."
"Mom," she whined and stomped her feet. "Come on."
"Emma, no."
"Whatever," she scoffed.
As Emma bolted up to her room Trevor let himself in the back door. He smiled at Rory and helped himself to a soda before sitting down.
"Terrible teens," he joked.
"Not. Funny." Rory rolled her eyes. "You're lucky you never had any kids; a daughter would rip you apart."
"No doubt," he said. "So, how we doing?"
"I should be asking you," Rory eyed him. "I mean we have a few weeks but the sooner the better."
He nodded. "Johnny got me in touch with his guy and the new papers should be in hand by next week."
"Amazing," she beamed. "Hearing this makes me less petrified."
"About that," he leaned closer. "You have any idea how you're gonna sell this?"
"I'm just gonna tell him flat out what happened, why I did it and how I plan to keep them out of jail."
Trevor nodded and shrugged. "I've never trusted someone that much before."
"I'm kind of offended," she spat. "You don't trust me?"
"I do, guess it's the dynamic, who he is."
"That I get," she agreed. "Go, he'll be home soon."
"Just text me your name preference, alright?"
"I get to pick?" She perked up.
"Yep," he winked at her. "Think about it, nothing crazy."
Rory laughed and nodded as he left, grabbing the folder for a job he had brought over, and studied it thoroughly until Happy came home.
"Hey baby," he grunted. "How you doing?" Greeting her with a rough kiss to the top of her head he kicked off his boots and threw himself down on the sofa.
"I'm okay," she smiled. "Lowen called, witness backed out but I'm not out of the woods. They're trying to scare up someone to talk."
"They won't," he said coolly. "And if they do whoever they find is gonna get a bullet." Playfully, he flicked her forehead but Rory jumped back not as amused as Happy
"That's not funny." She gently touched the spot.
"Damn," he ruffled, "Chill."
"I'm sorry I'm still jumpy," she tried to play it off.
"I know." Roughly he pulled her closer. "I missed you," Happy growled. His fingers toyed with the hem of her shorts before inching up and snapping the elastic of her panties. "You feeling up to it?"
Rory nodded slowly and kissed him, unable to actually say yes because of how much she wanted to turn him down. "Upstairs," she mumbled.
Tossing her over his shoulder, Happy raced up to their bedroom but instead of tossing her on the bed he pinned her against the wall. The mirror provided Rory with a clear view but instead she screwed her eyes shut. Actually seeing them together would have destroyed any pleasure she could feel and not only would be notice it but she needed to feel something.
After they finished Happy threw himself into bed and Rory jumped in the shower. When she got out their bed was empty and she heard hushed voices coming from the living room.
"Two weeks," Tig muttered quietly.
"Why they waiting?" Happy asked angrily.
"They probably want the rat to get more info," Bobby's voice suddenly filtered up the steps. "So we gotta find em' before these two weeks are up."
"No name?" Happy had clearly missed a very important conversation.
"Snitch said the warrant and arrests aren't even on the books," Bobby explained. "He wouldn't have found it if he didn't go looking SOA specifically."
"Well," Tig sighed, "Not all of us."
"What do you mean?"
"No names," Tig shook his head, "The rat has to ID us but there's only six suspects."
"There's more than six of us," Happy grumbled.
"Exactly."
Suddenly Rory appeared with wet hair and a bright smile. "Hey, everything okay?"
"No baby," Happy mumbled. He kissed her forehead. "Go up to bed, we'll talk later."
"No," she stood her ground. "What's going on?"
"We got a rat problem." Tig was clearly furious. "Don't worry, we'll clean it up."
"Got the best exterminator on the west coast." Bobby chuckled.
Rory forced a laugh and nodded, giving Happy a hard slap to the back. "I'll be in bed."
They kissed briefly and Rory hurried up to bed and immediately texting Trevor. Her stomach was in knots and her heart racing.
"They found out someone ratted. We need to move faster than we planned."
"Emergency plan B?"
"Yeah. I think we have to."
"Got it, we'll figure it out."
Rory deleted the texts and rolled over, unable to sleep, and waited fearfully for Happy. When he finally got into bed she tensed, his touch sending waves of guilt and terror through her. Before she was so confident she could talk to him but now, seeing the fire in his eyes she was convinced he'd kill her.
