Sitting in my backyard on this sunny summer day, a gentle breeze rustling the trees and the grass as a butterfly bounces around the edges of the foliage, I wonder how I could be so lucky.
My chair is comfortable, my stomach full, the temperature just right, and I haven't a care in the world. As I look past the fence to the street and the world beyond, I marvel again at the freedom I enjoy.
Having been on school vacations for the last two months, I have more time on my hands than I can remember. I can look for games to play on my computer all day long, or just get up early or sleep in, ride my mike with my friends, go to the park and play soccer, or sit in front of the TV watching my favorite programs all day. Sometimes I even get board of doing nothing, having no kind of responsibility.
Children know better than anyone else about the meaning of freedom, how important it is. Everbody loves to be free
If you ask your parents how they would define freedom now, yot might not like the answer. Maybe they don't cherish the idea of watching tv all day, or sleep till your body aches, bur they will agree with you that as long as they are free to do what they like, nothing else matters.
But is that all there is freedom-doing what one likes?
So, in the end, what is freedom?
Liberty?
No limits?
Anarchy?
Unlimited self-gratification?
it's none of these.
FREEDOM IS THE ABILITY TO CHOOSE.
