ONE YEAR LATER

The sun is going down slowly and I watch the small waves crash on the sand. The air is fresh on this early December, and I’m wrapped in my Gap sweatshirt, hands in the pockets.
“I’m gonna get us those crazy doughnuts and Belgian waffles Conor told me about lately! Wanna come or stay sit here?” –April asked.
“I’m gonna stay here, thanks”
She stands up, and leaves with her legendary good mood. We’d been driving from London all day long, and I just wanted to enjoy the fading sunlight reflecting on the ocean.
I feel the sand between my toes, and wrapp my arms around my knees. It’s such a good feeling to be sitting on Brighton pier at this moment of the day. People usually don’t stop. They’re freezing, they’ve got children.
I’ve always liked coming to Brighton to just let go. Let go off all the bad feelings.
It hadn’t been a great time lately. Ever since graduation, Gale and I hadn’t found time to see each other. He was always talking about going to Glasgow Uni and the most surprising is that it didn’t matter to me. At all. We’d been together for two years now. We had time to do anything a normal couple does. Go to the London Eye by night and exchange romantic looks. Go eat candyfloss in the city while laughing with tears. It had been such a time. Though, I couldn’t feel anything else but dullness. The fact is that ever since last December, I had lost it. Ever since I met this piano guy, I had lost it.

“Come on guys, this isn’t that complicated to play. You have the ball in your hands and then, you throw it to the next guys you see, understood?”
“Fuck you, Nathan. This is bullshit! Who does even play that kind of stuff anyway? It shouldn’t be allowed. Could hurt someone!” –Tom replies.
I sigh. This isn’t simple to get Tom’s attention sometimes. Max is on the phone again with Michelle, also smoking a light cigarette, while Siva’s texting something on his phone.
“I’ll play with you, little boy!” –Jay says, grabbing the ball from Tom’s hands.
I start running as fast as I could go. He doesn’t take much time before throwing the ball…too far from me to reach. I stop my run, to watch the ball go ten meters away and hit somebody’s back. Oops.

“What the hell?!” –I shouted, as something hit my back, like a stone hits a tree.
This got me out of my trance, and as I turn back to see what could’ve hurt me that much, I see two tall guys approaching. I swear if my eyes were lasers, they would both be dead already.
“I. Am. So. Sorry” –I hear the first one say.
I couldn’t see his face straight because of the sunlight blinding me. I threw back the ball with all the strength I had so that it could hurt him a bit too.
“Just take it back with you and get away before I rip your heads off”
“You heard the lady, let’s get back with the lads” –sweet voice of the other one says.
“I’m just worried. Are you ok?”
I turn back my face to say “I AM OK”.
Then it happens.
Green eyes. Short brown hair. Weird nose. Cute guilty smile. Nathan.
I’m speechless. My vision blurrs. I feel my mouth wide opened, but my head is a bit shaking. This is piano guy standing in front of me.

I can’t believe it. This is her. Kati. The girl of last December. It’s been a whole year since the last time I had seen her. She hasn’t changed, bright chesnut brown long hair flotting with the air while her dark eyes open wide when she recognizes me. We both haven’t forgotten last year. One night, that had changed everything.
