Chapter 2 - 2
Sét sat uncomfortably on his leather padded office chair, contemplating the after-effects of the orders he was about to issue. Captain Marcius has enabled him access to the Empire's strongest assets; the scientists, the military, the weaponry, the artillery, the air force, the navy, even the 2nd battalion's marching band.
Finally deciding to act, Sét pressed the button on the office's desk, activating the intercom to his personal secretary.
"Laur-" Sét choked on his words "Sorry, Lauren, could you come in for a second?"
"Yes sir." The electronic voice replied
The door opened with an aged squeak as Lauren stepped through.
Sét cleared his throat before speaking.
"Could you send a notification of advancement in my research to Captain Marcius and First Lieutenant Matria please Lauren?"
"Yes sir, but, you could've made things slightly more fluent if you'd have asked me through the intercom, that is what it is there for."
"I know Lauren, but I'd rather have seen you in person."
Sét's tone became guttural, he'd attempted to flirt but it came out completely wrong.
"Right, erm, I'll send off that advancement report then, shall I?"
"Oh, yes, of course, do as you will." Sét's voice sped up nervously
The door creaked once more and Sét's eyes followed Lauren's backside as she left the room. To his dismay, she stopped, noticing his rude glare. She quickly shuffled out, leaving Sét's indignities to reside in his sweating palms.
"Oh man," Sét consulted himself "Fucked up big time now, ain't ya Sét?"
He began to compile a list of all necessary equipment and miscellaneous paraphernalia.
He'd not finished before the door's creaky hinges, bolstered loosely to the plaster board which held it together, exploded out of place, along with the office's doors.
"Go go go!" Muffled exertive orders
"Put your hands on the desk; put your hands on the desk!" Shouted an armed policing officer, aiming a rifle at Sét's face and signalling with the gun's barrel exactly where he should put his hands
Three other masked men, laden with riot control gear, rushed into the room, guns brazen and bold.
The man who'd shouted the orders, barely distinct through his full faced gas mask, crept slowly around Sét, shouldering his rifle, and grabbing both of Sét's surrendered arms. The cold steel and unsympathetic feeling of handcuffs locked Sét's hands together.
"Brigadier Sét, you've been apprehended by the High Imperial Court's officers of justice and duty." The man's mask made his words disjointed
"What for!? I've done nothing!" Sét argued
"For High Treason against the High Imperial Court, hereby lodged by the heralded Captain Marcius"
"What have I done, exactly, to acquire this accusation!?"
"I shall not repeat myself, civilian."
With that, Sét was dragged out of the office, along with his innocence.
Thrown into the back of the Imperial authorities' imprisonment van, accompanied by two Law Bringers, Sét's face met the unsanitary floor, before being dragged to his seat.
The first Law Bringer, unbridled by his thin and protective armoured suit, unmasked himself.
"Hello there Sét," Greeted First Lieutenant Matria "How're you holding up?"
The second man also took off his mask, revealing the Second Lieutenant's face.
"How am I holding up?" Questioned Sét in disbelief
"Well, yeah, how are you?" Repeated Matria with annoyance
"What the hell just happened?" Whispered Sét
"Well, we've freed you from your occupational hazard." The Second Lieutenant informed
"Occupational hazard?" Asked Sét
"Well, yeah, you see, you know a secret that you've mentioned to us in the past, and now, well," Started the Second Lieutenant
"And now people want you gone, disappeared, vanished, dead, kaboom." Finished Matria
With Matria's final word, a far off explosion, naturally assumed as Sét's office confirmed the two Lieutenant's story.
"Was that?" Sét stuttered
"Yep, the institute you were at." Established Matria
Sét shuddered as an evil tinge of fear edged up his shudder.
"Why am I wanted for dead?" Asked Sét
"Because you know the secret." Reaffirmed the Second Lieutenant
"About the vampires?" Questioned Sét
"Exactly, by the way, it is ill advised that you mention that ever again." Matria cautioned
"Why did you have to dress up to get me here? Couldn't you have just asked politely?" Sét whimpered
"Of course we could, but we felt it necessary to have a nil amount of witnesses." Explained Matria
"By blowing up the institute? Was that you!?" Sét whispered in shock, accusing the two men
"Well, not really, that was probably an informant of Southern Starcia." Excused the Second Lieutenant
"You mean a spy?" Corrected Sét
"Once again, your intelligence exceeds us." Matria's tone of sarcasm was evident
"I can't believe any of this." Sighed Sét
"It is understandable Brigadier, now get some sleep." Matria suggested
Sét's state of shock caught up with him, he stretched out his legs inside the spacious van, and closed his eyes to sleep. The two Lieutenants did the same, they had a hectic month ahead of them, but neither one of them knew what was instore.
