Prologue
Sareea's POV
SARA-EAAA!
I jump and look up at the lady hitting her ruler on my desk. I did a mistake falling asleep in her class.
"You fall asleep again, and you're suspended!" She snaps at me.
"Okay Ma'am." I reply quietly. I'm still very groggy from my nap. I don't think she can suspend me for falling asleep, not a liable excuse considering it's my first time falling asleep in any class. She doesn't know what I'm going through.
Nobody does.
TWO WEEKS EARLIER
Today's the twins 8th birthday and I'm so pumped! Samaar and Sabrina are the best thing Allah has given me. They are my best friends for life and seem like just yesterday that I was holding them at the hospital. All a girl wants is a little sister, and I was blessed to have two at the same time.
I crawl out of bed and walk out with a hop to my step. I hum happy birthday on my way to wake up my sisters and mom.
I planned out my birthday entrance and am beaming with excitement. I hold the knob trying to contain my enthusiasm. Taking a huge breath I opened the door.
"Haaappy birthd--" I leap into the bedroom to see they aren't there. I begin to panic. What if they're hiding from me? They always do that to freak me out.
"Samaar?" I yell out. The apartment we live in isn't that large so yelling wasn't necessary. "Sabrina?"
After I called out their names, the tiny apartment is filled with blood curdling screams coming from my mom's room. My heart and the rest of my internal body organs dropped. I run to her room to see the sight that would change my life forever.
Sisters holding my mother, crying. She was on the ground with blood surrounding her body. She was still alive and shivering with a grim smile on her face.
