Dean stepped in front of the monitor. The whole operations centre fell dead silent. Castiel looked more washed out on the screen, his handsome face patchy with shadows, his eyes glowing eagerly as he waited for Dean to showed himself.
When Castiel saw Dean, alive and well, he let out a sigh that made Dean pull his bottom lip into his mouth and bite down hard. Dean had to remind himself that Castiel had never been truthful, was in every way a stranger, no matter how well his body might remember him. They were known to each other only by the flesh and the flesh was dishonest.
"I wanna trade," was all the words that Dean could force out of his mouth. His heart hammered in his chest while Castiel looked his fill. His cheeks darkening and his eyes wide. Castiel parted his lips and let out a soft laugh.
"A miracle," Castiel said. "You're a gift from above."
"Cut the crap Cas, I know you're not really a priest."
Castiel smiled, his mouth cocking up at the corner. "As a matter of fact I am, grew up in an orphanage, trained and ordained. Something to fall back on, should my inheritance fall forfeit."
Dean could see out of the corner of his eye that Bobby was gesturing for him to keep Castiel talking. They needed information on Castiel's motivation, any knowledge was going to help with working out what Castiel's weakness was. Though Dean thought it was kind of obvious, the only bargaining chip they had was the fact that the prison was surrounded and Dean's so called connection with the new Lucifer. So Dean swallowed the offer he was going to push for and did his job.
"The vows I broke for you, they meant much to me," Castiel said, his eyes warm.
"You lying, Cas?" Dean said after a pause. "That's a sin isn't it?"
Castiel shook his head.
"No more lies, Dean," Castiel looked long into the camera on his end, his expression turning almost shy. "I think it is time for us to get to know each other."
Dean clenched his fists. "What if I don't wanna get to know you? The man I fell for, that wasn't the real you."
Castiel lowered his eyes and murmured. "Dean, let's not fight in front of all these people. Our relationship is just beginning and I understand your reservations. I deceived you but I did not coerce you, what I took from you you gave up willingly, what you took from me I laid down in worship of you."
"You're fucking crazy," Dean replied curtly. Bobby was giving him a death glare and Chuck looked worried but Dean plowed on. "I'm a FBI agent, you're a what, prince of mobs, king of the crims. We ain't got a relationship, unless it's you in cuffs and me holding the keys.'
"If that is what you wish," Castiel said demurely. "Perhaps in the evenings we could pursue that sort of thing?"
Dean closed his mouth and stepped back. "We're getting nothing from him, terminate the call."
"Charlie Bradbury," Castiel said quietly. "In exchange for a question that you will answer. Her cover was prison doctor wasn't it? She did all the fake deaths."
"One question that I will answer and you will answer one of mine," Dean countered. "Plus Charlie."
Castiel nodded towards the edge of the frame. Dean waited and after a minute or so, he could see Charlie walking out the front door of the prison with her hands raised. Chuck was frantically trying to get Dean to look at the white board on the wall, upon which Chuck had written questions for Castiel.
Dean went with the first question. "What is your name?"
"Castiel Krushnic Collins Novak," Castiel replied.
Dean could see analysts typing the name into databases. There were no matching criminal records, though a legitimate birth record was shown.
"My turn," Castiel tilted his head. "Answer honestly please. What is your favourite food?"
"Pie," Dean said, his face heating up.
"Donna Hanscum and a second question, please," Castiel said.
