"Try it one more time, Joelle. You can get it," Jayne smiled, encouraging me.
I stepped up to the microphone, hitting all the wrong notes. I put my hands in my hair, starting to get frustrated. I'll never get this. The show is tonight! Harper must have seen the distress on my face. She came up on stage and grabbed my shoulders, locking eyes with me.
"If you're not feeling this one, we'll do the number we practiced, okay?" I nodded as she smiled and hugged me. It was a risk but I was willing to take it.

"Please welcome Joelle Hawkins and my daughter, Harper 'Juliet' Collins!" Jayne yelled into the microphone as I stepped forward, the track playing. Harper and I were matching in red dresses with one long sleeve and one sleeve missing, hers hitting her a little higher above her knees being that she was taller than me. We both wore white heels and danced.
"People stop to turn and stare everywhere she goes. Dollar signs and dark blonde hair. She will steal your soul. Set her sights on billionaires, all she wants is gold. She is straight up rock and roll. I'm telling you she knows. She know oh-oh-ee-oh-oh. She know oh-oh-ee-oh-oh. Nobody does it like Juliet. Juliet, what you do to me. The way she does it is criminal, physical, and it's killing me. Nothing wrong in these allegations. She know oh-oh-ee-oh-oh. Nobody does it like Juliet. Juliet, you are haunting me. Pulls you with her perfect smile. Pretty soon you're done. One more sucker pays the price, thinking you're the one. Many men have tried and failed, captured by her bold. Stay away from Juliet. You will lose control. She know oh-oh-ee-oh-oh. She know oh-oh-ee-oh-oh. She know oh-oh-ee-oh-oh. She know oh-oh-ee-oh-oh. Nobody does it like Juliet. Juliet, what you do to me. The way she does it is criminal, physical, and its killing me. Nothing wrong in these allegations. She know oh-oh-ee-oh-oh. Nobody does it like Juliet. Juliet, you are haunting me..."

When the set was over, I headed backstage to find Jayne so I could leave. Since we were in a bar and I was only nineteen, I had to leave as soon as I was done singing.
I caught up with Jayne and she led me towards the back door so I could leave.
"I'll see you later. Make sure you go straight home," she smiled, motherly.
I was almost completely out the door when I saw a man smoking in the alley. Not taking the time to see who it was, I ran up to him and slapped his hand, making the cigarette fall to the ground. He looked at me as angrily as I looked at him.
"Who do you think you are?" he barked.
All I wanted to do was scream. I wanted to inform him that he could die from that piece of paper. I wanted him to know how much I missed my uncle who died from forty years of smoking... But once I looked into his eyes, I realized I couldn't because I'm a mute.
"Well?!" he yelled, still angry.
I started walking out of the alley when I felt a hand wrap around my wrist. I stopped and turned towards him.
"You can't just do that and walk away. Who are you?"
His eyes began to soften as he saw worry on my face. I reached into the back pocket of the jeans I changed into and pulled out my notepad and a pen. I communicated through writing as he spoke to me.
"Forget it, okay?" I wrote.
"Look the cigarette doesn't even matter. Why aren't you talking to me?"
