Winter 1957

"So what is it you want with me? Do you have a name?" The faceless woman asked curiously.

He shook his head. "I'm suppose to take care of you." He said simply as they walked down the snowy street.

"I'm going to assume by the all black and menacing look that it isn't in a comforting way either. Do you even know who I am?"

"It isn't important. All that is important is that I complete my orders."

"I'll give you that. I'm usually the same way with my own orders. Well.. If a fight is what you want, a fight is what you'll get, stud. I only ask for two things. That we take this away from the village and I know the name of the man trying to kill me."

"I don't have a name." He growled, taking a path out of the village.

"Then I'll give you one. I'm going to call you 'Odinokiy Soldat.'"

He snorted. "Lone soldier?"

"You're alone, aren't you?"

He made a grunting noise, ignoring her.

"Dd they even tell you my name?"

"No and I don't care."

-----------------------------

The lone soldier opened his eyes. He attempted to sit up only to groan in pain.

"You shouldn't move. I got you pretty good, you know."

He looked over at her. "You gain nothing from healing me. Why bother?"

"I've killed enough in my life. I try not to take lives if it's avoidable. And you'll be stuck to that bed for a long time." She pushed herself off the counter where she leaned and walked towards him with a glass of water. "Here." She held it out to him as she rested on his bedside.

He grimaced however he reached up with his left hand made of metal and gripped her throat tightly. "How can you be so sure I won't kill you right now?"

"I'm not. But without me you might lose your other arm as well. Let alone a kidney. Admit it, Soldat, you need me. At least for the next several weeks. Call it a truce until you're well enough to fight me fair like a man."

He scoffed, dropping his hand and taking the glass of water.

"Well you might not remember much but at least you've got values." She smiled softly, watching him gulp the water down.

"What do I call you?" He eyed her warily.

"Whatever you want."

---------------------------

He moaned softly, her feather light touches against his skin driving him wild. He opened his eyes, watching her as she worked her magic while changing his bandages. When she taped the last one in place he reached out, taking her hand in his right one.

Her dark brow arched beautifully against her skin. She watched him as he laced his fingers with hers.

"I think I've decided on a name for you." He said quietly, catching her eyes with his gaze.

"Do tell." She smiled slightly, leaning closer to him.

"I'm calling you Gem."

"Oh? Why's that?"
