Chapter two
I opened my mouth to scream, but no sound escaped my trembling lips, I stood there frozen watching my mother, her face stared at me, and that's when I realised her chest was moving, she was breathing!
My legs un froze and I ran downstairs to the phone and quickly dialled emergency services.
"Hello, what is your emergency?"
"Mmmy motherr, she's cut her herr wrist, shhhes lyinng in the bbbathtub" I choked out. "What's your address"
the woman asked calmly
"67 gin fell drive" I said trying to mimic her calmness
"an ambulance will be with you shortly please try to do what you can to stop the bleeding while you wait" she said and hung up the phone.
I slammed it down and hurried upstairs "mother, mother can you hear me" I yelled dropping on my knees at the side of the bathtub tears spilled down my cheeks
"mother" I screamed, I looked at her more closely, her auburn hair was matted with blood her creamy complexion was also smudged with it, and her bright green eyes didn't seem to be here, she looked so far away.
'THUD THUD' the door I realised in shock, I scrambled to my legs and ran for it, I blinked and I seemed to be in there too!
I watched as they hooked her up to all these different machines not making a sound while tears rolled down my cheeks, in a matter of minutes we were at the hospital.
One of the ambulance women had stayed with me in the ambulance while the rest carried mother inside, "It'll be ok chick" she smiled at me warmly, I could only stare, my mouth wouldn't work, she looked at me worriedly and that's when I fainted...
They were all beautiful
The whole family stood there staring at me
The beautiful family, the two children, blue eyed woman and the green eyed man, they smile at me warmly, "Violet" the woman whispers her voice sounds like a chorus of bells "remember, there's always a light at the end of the tunnel" she smiles her warm smile at me again...
I woke up sobbing, I found myself in a hospital bed, "where am I?" I muttered out loud. "Somewhere safe" a voice replied I looked around there was a nurse standing next to me, then I remembered all the scenes flashing through my mind the crying, the bathtub, her red wrists and then sleeping...
"Is my mother ok?" I stutter, the nurses smile falters.
"I better go get the doctor" she mutters and walks out the door, some minutes later a balding, podgy old man walks through the door alongside the nurse he isn't smiling.
"Violet, we have some bad news for you" he says in a grave tone
I feel my heart thudding in my ears, I know what he's going to say...
"Your mother passed last night while you were unconscious" I close my eyes again and lean back against the soft, feathery hospital pillow.
"NO" I shout "she can't be.. No no" I start crying tears warm my face, this can't be happening, I start screaming, it's a wordless scream, the doctor covers his ears and the nurse leaves "violet" I see his lips move saying my name, but I can't hear, I can only scream, scream for pain, hurt, grief, this is my fault. I know it is.
I've stopped screaming now.
I'm sitting on the bed rocking pressing my legs against my chest and rocking, back and fourth back and fourth, somehow it helps. Then the blackness comes and I fall onto the soft pillow.
"we're here" I drag my eyes up and the beautiful family are all standing "It's OK Violet" I hear her soft welcoming whisper, above me the woman is kneeling
beside me she's stroking my face smiling at me, her smile is dazzling, much like the rest of her, her touch is so cold it makes me shiver.
She stands up, her eyes are locked on mine. "Don't let the darkness win Violet" she says as the all begin to fade I reach for them "don't go" I cry, she only smiles in response, before they are gone.
My eyes flutter open, I'm not in the hospital anymore, I don't know where I am. "Hello?" I call out.
"You're awake" she grunts. Oh no, I know that voice, it can't be, but the darkness is clearing and I can see... "Aunt Lilly" I say confused...
Then once again it all hits me, "mum" I moan somewhere between a sob and a whimper.
"It's your fault you know" she says sharply
"I know" I mutter, she slaps me hard across the face, so fast I didn't even see it coming. Then she leaves me in the peace of darkness...
About an hour after she left and I had stopped crying I sank into sleep...
"It's your fault" she sneered at me
"I'm sorry mother, so sorry" I whimpered
"I'm dead because of you!" she shouted
There in front of me was my mother, she was naked with blood pouring out of her freshly cut wrists staring hatefully at me.
"Your whole existence is nothing, you are nothing!"
" So sorry mother so sorry"
