Screaming... All around. Screaming and flames. James turned in all directions looking for his father. "DAAAAAD!!!! DAAAD WHERE ARE YOU?!?!" he kept yelling. He could barely hear himself over the noise of mother's screaming and the clash of swords as the men in the village battled against the bandits trying to destroy the village. James managed to get out of the way just in time as two bandits ride by at full speed on their horses, and that's when James's father appeared chasing them on a horse of his own.
"JAMES! GET TO THE WOODS! STAY SAFE!!!" James's father yelled as he rode by. James nodded and started running in the direction his dad came from.
As he was about to leave the market on the outskirts of the village, James heard a scream and he turned to see a women being dragged by a bandit towards him. The bandit obviously didn't know he was there, so he unsheathed the small dagger he always carried on him. Quietly he crept up behind the bandit and brought his dagger up and back down into the bandit's back as hard as he could. With him being only a thirteen that old boy and using only a small dagger made it so his stab wasn't that effective, but he managed to drag the woman away from the bandit and they both ran towards the woods.
The woman made it first because James heard a yell he recognized as his fathers. He turned in time to see his father fall from the saddle with an arrow in his shoulder. The fall killed him.
