Chapter Nine - Welcome
Maggie never thought she'd find out what a freshly fired bullet tasted like, but then again she also never thought she be the direct target of a demonic blonde woman whom people referred to as Karen. Maggie fashioned a new nickname for her after the first bullet connected with the back of her head; demon-bitch-from-the-seventh-circle-of-hell. Karen was probably easier to remember though.
The bullets never penetrated her skull as her bones seemed to be invincible for all she knew. They broke through her scalp and burned some of her hair, but when she shook her head the bullets fell to the floor and left only impermanent dents in their place. A few hot drips of blood trickled down her neck, but before they could congeal, the wound was already healing. Her blood was thicker and darker now. It's viscosity was almost like hot tar. It would have made her stomach churn if she had the ability to feel sick anymore.
"I can't believe those incompetent quacks didn't inform me that you were completed and did not die in the process. For that I'm going to test you without informing them. Doctor Fazden thinks that he's so smart. Watch when I hand in the first report of his crowning jewel to the bosses." The second bullet went off and Maggie dodged it easily with her new reflexes.
"Stay still girl. Today we're testing how much damage you can endure at the hand of my gun." It was a black handgun that was a little bigger than the palm of her hand.
It went against all of Maggie's new and sharpened instincts to simply sit still and let herself be shot in the head. Even though she knew it wouldn't kill her, it still felt undeniably wrong and dangerous. Karen sauntered over to Maggie, and she ordered her to kneel in front of her. Maggie complied. Karen pried Maggie's lower jaw downward and shoved the barrel of the gun between her teeth.
Bitch.
The bullets seared Maggie's lips as they entered her mouth. The hot metal connected with her teeth. She could feel the hot metal bend and compress upon impact. Disgusted, she spat it out, and the ping it made when it hit the linoleum sounded louder than she expected.
The next bullet burned and scraped across her tongue. They tasted sharp and metallic, with a faint hint of pepper and sulphur. It grazed the back of her throat and she gagged, more out of habit than if it were actually choking her. She spit out the bullet along with a few gobs of thick, black blood. She wouldn't have looked twice at the blood if it weren't for the fact that she noticed the tiny puddles of blood twitch from the corner of her eye.
She kneeled down to inspect the twitching mass, at the same time the next bullet went off and hit the wall behind her. She expected Karen to yell at her again, but the woman remained silent. The glistening blood jiggled ever so slightly, but Maggie was positive that she didn't imagine it. As she continued to stare at the blood to catch it in the act of moving, she realized it was starting to raise itself off the ground towards her. The puddles were taller yet smaller now, and when she leaned away from them they tilted slightly toward her like a mass of magnetic iron flecks attracted to a single, large magnet.
"Would you look at that." Demon bitch's heels clacked loudly as she made her way towards Maggie. Maggie looked up as Karen approached. "Do you know why it's doing that, girl?"
Maggie shook her head.
"Your own disgusting blood is not only working for you, it is completely enslaved to you. It yearns to be with you again. It is partially responsible for your healing factor and resistance to pain. You could even say that the revolting puddles of tar right there loves you, and god knows you need all the love you can get." After Karen's little explanation she raised the gun and shot Maggie in the forehead.
