Kory was reading a book in his cell when he heard the explosion. The frame of his bunk shook and a few of the patients walking outside his cell fell to the ground from the sudden tremor. Kory put the book down and walked to the glass door of his cell to see what was happening. Doctors and Monitors ran through the halls towards the elevators. Some of the doctors pushed gurneys and other carried loaded machine guns that Kory was all too familiar with. Trying to get the attention of one of the men or women, he slammed his hands on the glass door.

Kory finally got the attention of one of the nurses. "Hey, hey, hey!"

"What?" The nurse was in their early thirties and wore the usual scrubs. She had a wild look in her eyes.

"What's going on?"

"Explosion on floor four! We don't know how many are injured. I gotta go!" She ran away with the flood of other medics.

He suddenly felt very cold. Allie and Ray were on floor four. What the hell did they do? Kory knew Alison and Raymond were adept in their powers, but he didn't expect them to blow up an entire floor. It didn't seem possible. He screamed to get the attention of other medics or even a Monitor, but no one had the time to stop. As the last of the medics left the floor, the halls emptied and Kory knew he wouldn't get any answers now.

He slumped down on his bed. I hate this, he thought. I'm stuck in this damn cell and I can't even help them. If they're hurt... or worse I won't stand for it. I'll blow up more than one lousy ward. Kory was already surrounded by death on a daily basis. Everyone he gets close too eventually dies. When the docs decide their time is up that's that. Life here is just a waiting game.

As he waited in his cell, he wasn't sure how much time passed. It could have been seconds, minutes, or even hours. The thought that his friends could be dead dominated his thoughts. He gripped the sides of his head and bent his head down as he rocked back and forth. Please be safe. Please be safe. Please be safe.

Blurred images of two corpses appeared in his mind and each had the face of Alison and Raymond. Both bodies were in bags and doctors stood beside them with clipboards in their hands. Typical, even during a death the only thing the doctors concern themselves with were their goddamn, bloody notes! Kory sat up abruptly and grabbed onto one of his bed posts. Fuming, he began squeezing the post. The wood splintered and creaked as it slowly cracked in half.

Kory took a deep breath and looked down at the wrecked post. He took his hand off and chunks of wood fell to the ground. He knew they wouldn't give him a new bed, but suddenly, he didn't give a shit. He stood up and pulled his thin mattress off the bed. He growled angrily and ripped the mattress right down the middle. Fluff and springs spilled onto the floor. He threw the remains onto the metal frame of the bed, and strode over to the small dresser in the corner of his room. He grabbed onto it and tipped the whole thing over. The drawers fell out and he kicked them and their contents at the glass wall. "FUCK YOU STUPID FUCKING HOUNDS!" he screamed, addressing the Monitors even though they couldn't hear him.

"You better watch that fucking mouth, Kory," said a voice.

He looked up and saw the slightly comforting sight of the lunch lady and stifled a laugh. Bertha had the dirtiest mouth of all, and that's saying something, because this shit hole made people really want to swear. She was heavyset and had curly red hair and dimples. Her smile and humour has managed to cheer up Kory, Ray, and Alison on countless occasions.

"What are you doing here?" Kory asked. He stepped over his dresser and walked to the door.

Bertha lowered her head to speak into the hole in his door. "I wanted to check up on you. Can't talk for long, but I found out what happened on floor four."
