Disconnected

Louis looks down at the water droplet on his hand as he realizes what's going on. Maybe not because it's a sad song, but because of the memories that are linked to it. The sound of that piano melody brings back too many memories.
He lifts his hand up to his eyes as he wipes the tears away. He stops the music and leaves his phone on the night table next to her bed. While he lays down looking at the ceiling.

"Idiot"
Louis whispers to himself.

How would you feel if you had the strongest urge to talk to someone who's right in front of you, but you couldn't? How would you feel if you had no one to talk to about your interests, or about how your week's going, when you know someone could've listened? No one to tell funny or sad stories, no one to laugh with, no shoulder to cry on.
How would you feel if you lost connection with that person who connected your whole life together?

Suddenly he hears a knock on the door, and a soft voice coming from the hallway:

-Love, do your homework before 6:00 pm, we're going shopping.
His mom says in a sweet tone.

-I have no homework!
Louis lies.

His grades have really lowered lately. Although he once was an honour student in his earlier school years, his academic performance has gotten worse through High School. This year's just started and his grades have not been higher than 6 on any subject. He hasn't been doing any homework, or done well on any quiz.

-Well, then let's go now! Get ready, we'll be leaving in 10!
Her mom exclaims cheerfully.

Louis gets up from his bed and walks towards his closet to grab a pair of jeans and a purple sweater, his favorite color. He lazily puts on some worn out black TOMS, and heads out. He climbs inside the car in the front passenger's seat with a monotone face. Not showing any sign of emotion. His mum turns on the car, and takes off to the Mall.

-Are you okay sweetheart?
Louis' mum asks.

-Yeah, yeah I'm fine, just a bit tired from school today.
He answers as he stares at the car's black carpet floor.

As the ride continues, Louis starts feeling worse and worse, all the tension is getting to his head and tearing his brain apart. It's not easy letting go of your best friend as simple as that. It's not easy to adjust to a whole new reality where you've lost the key to your strongbox. And all because of one stupid mistake. One act of jealousness, that sacrificed four entire years of being bonded together like a perfect combination of two imperfect souls.

That's what stuck them together, they complimented eachother so strangely well, that no one was able to find the way to separate them; except for themselves.

-Ethan, Olivia hmmmm how's this one called?
Harry asks.

-Oh, she's Tina, the new kiddo.
Niall replies.

-Weird. I haven't seen her in class.

-Yeah she just got into school yesterday.

-Ohhh, ok ok that makes more sense now... Hey can I have a slice of your pizza?
Harry asks Niall.

-No, eat yours.
He replies.

-Ahhhh, come on! I always give you some of mine! I wanna tryyy it pleaaase!

-...Fine.
Niall says while handing Harry one of his "DIY individual pizza" slices they bought from the bakery Harry works in.

-You know, I bring out the best of you.
Harry jokingly says to Niall.

-Ya wish... By the way, how's your song doing?

-Meh, stopped working on it a long time ago. I ran out of inspiration right after coming up with the lyrics for the pre-chorus. The overall melody is already finished though.

-Bummer, you started reall- hey isn't that Louis?
Niall surprisedly exclaims as he slowly lifts his index finger up to point behind Harry.

Harry turns his back around only to see Louis and his mum walking through the mall's buildings. He doesn't seem to lift his eyes up from his phone as he walks. He passes by, but doesn't notice them.

-Yeah... it is.
Harry sighs as he returns to eating his pizza.

-Have you guys talked at all since last year? You were so close and... I mean I know what happened but still, why did everything just-

-Hey let's not talk about that now okay?
Harry interrupts him.

-H, I know how much talking about this hurts you, but I also know you do need someone to talk to about this situation and what better lad to do so than me, right? Why can't you just tell me?
Niall asks worried.

-He... He doesn't even remember why we stopped talking in the first place. He doesn't know what to feel sorry about... So no, I'm not forgiving him until he says he's sorry for what he did.

-He was the one who spread the rumours right?

-Who else would? I don't think you or Zayn would even think about doing something like that. I almost got expelled you know?

-Of course not, I would never.

As Niall finishes speaking Harry lets out a huge sigh. They finish their pizza and stand up from their table to walk home.

-See you tomorrow Barbara!
Harry shouts as he leaves the mall

-I really hope so Harry!
Shouts back the bakery owner.

As soon as they walk out the building Harry plugs in his earphones to listen to some music. He hands one to Niall while giving him a polite grin. Niall accepts his offer and the rest of the walk is silent.
