Liam would never play with other kids his age. When his parents and teachers would question him about it he would always shrug and run off to his favorite corner with his woody doll. Liam was perfectly content being alone, he actually preferred the loneliness until one day the teacher announced that a new student had transferred. This students name was Louis and within the first five minutes of his arrival, he had already forced so much of his presence on liam that he thought he might drown in it. "Hi! I'm Louis! I like toy story too!" Louis exclaimed throwing himself down next to liam before he even hung up his book bag. "Oh... Hi." Liam would reply shyly trying to avoid eye contact as much as he could. "What's your name kid?" Louis asked cheerily grabbing his buzz figure out of his book bag, and oh my god liam thought why couldn't louis be loud somewhere else? "Liam." he said instead. "Liam. Leeeeeyummm. I like that. We're going to be good friends Liam, I can tell. Just like buzz and woody!"

On Liam's 8th birthday, Louis was the only one that came. Liam's parents spent majority of the time apologizing but Liam was more than okay with this. Not only was there more cake for him, but he and Louis got to spend the whole day playing outside. They pretended they were airplanes spreading their arms zooming across the yard and jumping over rocks. "Oh no! Liam get your rockets ready! The aliens are attacking!" Louis laughed loudly making shooting sounds with his mouth. "PEW PEW PEW! DIE ALIEN SCUM!" Liam shouted following in Louis' lead, something he had been doing since he was 5. So when Louis tripped and scrapped his knee on a rock, Liam had no idea what to do. Liam dropped immediately to louis' side and grabbed his hand. "Louis, are you okay!" Liam felt like he was going to cry, but Louis didn't so he didn't. "Pilot down Payno! This calls for immediate surgery! Do you have any SpongeBob Band-Aids?" Liam laughed and ran to get the Band-Aids.

Liam was 10 when Louis grabbed his hand and brought him up into his tree house. There was footie player posters covering the walls and pillows all over the floor. "Liam..." Louis whispered barely audible. "I have to tell you a secret. You have to promise not to tell anyone." Liam wrapped his pinky around his best friends' and whispered back. "I promise." Liam was also 10 the first time Louis cried infront of him. "My parents are getting a divorce li.. My dad left this morning." Liam pulled Louis into his chest and kissed his head like his mom always did when he was upset. "Don't cry Lou... we can share my parents! We can be brothers." Louis chocked out a laugh and smiled up at Liam. "I really wish it worked like that Liam."

Liam's first day of high school, he was wreck. His clothes were 3x too big and he had a hole in his shoe. Louis, of course, looked better than the whole school. He already made 10 new friends and received 4 girls' phone numbers, all before lunch. "This high school thing is great Liam! I love all of my classes!" Louis spoke with enthusiasm while shoving a hamburger in his mouth. Liam just smiled. "M' happy for you Lou." And truthfully, he was! He loved seeing Louis happy. What he didn't love so much was the fact that he was losing him. There was no doubt in Liam's mind that Louis would make new best friends and forget all about him. "You don't sound so happy Leem. What's wrong?" And fuck, why was Liam crying? "No, I am. I'm fine." Lie. "Liam, we've never lied to each other. Don't start now, why are you crying? Was someone mean to you? Who do I have to fight?" Liam laughed. "You don't have to fight anyone louis, just.. Don't want you to make better friends and leave me I guess." Louis' face fell which was exactly what Liam didn't want. God, Liam thought, Why am I so selfish? "Fuck, Liam," Louis sighed grabbing Liam's hands in his. Liam didn't know why he felt so safe when Louis did that. "I could never leave you. Even if you told me to, I wouldn't. You're my woody remember? We need each other." Liam would believe every word Louis said as long as he said it with his hands.

Louis was there when Liam got his first girlfriend, secretly applauding in the background. He was so happy for him, how couldn't he have been when Liam would smile so much when she was around? Louis was there on their first date to the fair and he was there at 3am when Liam knocked on his door and asked him to follow him into the treehouse. Liam cried until the sun came up and Louis did too. Louis also made it his mission to never see Liam like that again. Louis did everything in his power to never let Liam feel heartbreak again. They went on adventures every day exploring the parts of town they never knew existed so Liam could fall in love with places that would never leave him the night before prom. The scariest part is that while Louis watched Liam fall in love, he did too. At least, he thought that's what he thought the feeling was? Google and Yahoo answers always said so. But when Louis took Liam to a concert and saw the passion in his eyes and felt the energy from his mouth pushed against Louis' ear, Louis didn't question it anymore.

The night before graduation, Louis found himself at Liam's front door. Luckily, Liam answered and not his parents, because it was 4am and Karen would kill Louis. "Louis, What the hell are you doing?" Liam said with so much fondness in his voice Louis thought he might cry. "Liam, I don't want to do this." Louis sighed. Liam smiled softly and pulled Louis inside. After Liam made them both tea, he sat down next to louis and gave him a blanket. Louis threw it over both of their heads like they used to as children instead. "Are you scared?" Liam whispered like if anyone heard them they would surely die right there. Which, knowing Liam's parents, was probably true. "Incredibly. Don't wanna lose my best friend." Louis mumbled, voice so small he was afraid Liam didn't hear him. Liam sat his tea on the floor and hugged Louis so tightly Louis thought that all of his broken pieces would some how fit back together and he would never feel shitty again. "I love you Louis." Louis held on to liam and tried to choke back his tears saying the one thing he knew to be most true. "I love you, Liam. So much."

Liam was 19 when he was shoving boxes in the back of his car anywhere they would fit. It was 15 minutes before he had to leave for college and Liam had no idea where Louis was. Maybe he finally realized what Liam always knew, He didn't need Liam. Liam hugged his sisters and his dad first, saving his mom for last because he knew she would cry the most. "Don't want my baby to leave me... Can't you take a year break and maybe go next year?" His mom mumbled into his shoulder. "M' sorry mom.. Wish I could but it's too late now, already paid all that money." Liam sighed kissing his moms hair. "I know darling, just wish you could be little again. Playing airplanes with Louis instead of boarding an actual one to leave me." The mention of Louis' name shouldn't have made Liam's heart skip a beat. "Me too mom." Liam cried. Suddenly he heard Louis from behind them. "Me three." Louis laughed.

Liam was 19 when his eyes went wide and he let go of his mom before turning around to see a sleepy Louis. "Sorry M' late Li, 9am is so early." Louis mumbled pulling liam into his chest. Liam remembered the first time he did that to louis. "We'll let you two say goodbye.." Liam's dad said leading his mom inside. Liam nuzzled his face into Louis' shoulder and inhaled deeply. This was Liam's favorite place in the world. Out of all the places they've been, right in Louis' arms would always be his favorite. "Promise you'll come back for thanksgiving and come see me? I'll probably have an ugly beard but..." Louis laughed not letting go. "I promise. I'll probably be 30 pounds heavier and look like a bear but I'll be here. I'll come back for your birthday too and we can spend it sledding down that one hill just like we use-" Louis cut Liam off by kissing him right in the middle of the street they grew up playing in.
