It's Thursday morning and I'm starting to feel better. I get up and look at the time 8:23. My Aunt walks into my room. "Hey Alex! Since you're feeling better would you like to take maxxy for a walk?" Maxxy is my pitbull. She can be annoying to walk, stopping every five seconds to sniff a bush, or chasing a squirrel and dragging me with her. Though she's a pest I decide to say yes. I needed some fresh air anyways. "Sure Auntie." I get up, get dressed, brush my teeth, and pack a small lunch. My Aunt already has Maxxy chained up outside. I go to exit the front door as my Aunt walks over to me. She gives me a big kiss on the forehead and hands me my pocket knife. "Thanks Auntie. I nearly forgot it!" "Just in case dear. " She says. "Oh and one more thing!" "Yes?" I reply in an irritated tone. "Stay away from that fence! And have fun muffin!" I walk out the front door, take the leash and lead Maxxy to the woods. "Stay away from the fence." It sounds so. I don't know how to explain it. Maxxy stops at a few bushes and chases a deer. Then I freeze. I knew it! The fence! The girl! I run with my dog over to the spot were I met the girl. I finally get there and I hear her scream. "GET AWAY!" I hear other kids as well calling her names. "Cutter!" "Go yourself!" "This world will be better without you!" I let go of Maxxy's leash and run toward the fence. "HEY!" I shout. "LEAVE HER ALONE!" The kids on their other side of the fence look at me a laugh. I search my backpack for my pocket knife. "What!" I search even harder and my hand wraps around a handle. Not the same handle as my knife. I pull it out. It's black and heavy. The kids on the other side of the fence quiver and step back. I examine it even more. "A gun!! He has a gun!" One of the kids on the other fence say. I lift the gun and fire it into the air. BOOM! The kids scramble and hide. Kristen stares at me. I hear guards coming. "RUN!" She shouts and we both run opposite directions. I run all the way home with Maxxy ignoring the stinging in my feet. Luckily the guard didn't catch me.. or Kristen I hope.
It's been five days since I've been to mine and Kristen's meeting place. I decide to head back there. This time bringing my best friend Tyler. "So.. who is this girl? What's her name? Is she cute?" Tyler asks so many questions it makes me uncomfortable. I decide not to answer them. We finally get there and Kristen has a worried look on her face. "Kristen?" "Is everything ok?" I ask. "No. No.. no!" She sounded worried. "What is it?" Tyler also had a worried look on his face. Kristen replays " Alex. You have to listen to me. I'm not lying. Alex. The government is planning to take over our land. They're going to kill us all!" "You need to help us please!" "What!?" I say "That's crazy talk." Tyler says. "What soldier would go along with that plan?" "Alex and your friend?" "Oh. This is Tyler." I say. "Never mind that." "But yea. That's what I heard." "Anyways." I say trying to change the subject." Tyler butts in "I have a qquestion for you, Krysta." "Kristen." She says in a stern voice. "What's your question?" "Well.. are you homeless?" "Tyler!" I say while smacking his arm. "Sorry! I just wanted to know." "Well.." Kristen starts off. "I'm not technically homeless. My family is horrible. My dad is gone, my mother abuses me. Yea. I basically come out here to be alone." She says with a sigh. "Oh." "Sorry for asking." Tyler says, feeling guilty.
