I've always imagined what it would be like to start a family with him. Of course we'd have to get married first but I've always liked the idea of baby hockey players running around. There wasn't a day I stopped thinking about it, especially when we were around family. Tom and I rotate holidays. One year I go to Canada to spend Christmas with his family, the next he stays with me and spends Christmas with my family. This year is my family's turn.

I have three cousins. Brett is fifteen, Aiden is seven, and Owen is four. Every year we play a little game on Christmas Eve. The kids, anyone without kids of their own, all get to open one present. However, the presents are hidden. It's like a scavenger hunt. You get clues that lead you from place to place until you get to your present. The first one to find their prize gets to open a second gift. My brother's wife had just had their first child, making them ineligible. Which was great for me because he's always the one who beats me to the gift. Tom didn't want to play, but he did volunteer to be a clue along the way.

The race starts at exactly 4pm. We all get clues to different points and of course Brett and I's clues are much harder than the younger cousins. Between Brett and I, there was hair pulling and tripping and faces full of snow but eventually I found my present. I came to the gazebo in my grandparent's back yard and saw Tom.

He was standing in a suit and tie, hair falling in his face. As I walked towards him, snow began to fall. My breathing quickened as I saw his hand in his pocket, fiddling with something.

"Hi," I smiled up at him, a big grin spreading across his face. "Are you my present?" We both laughed and he ran his hand through my hair.

"You have muddy snow in your hair." He laughed again as I blushed.

"Brett and I get pretty rough looking for presents. It's a lot of pushing and shoving but I think I won this time." I looked around and saw Brett standing on the deck, staring intently at his clue and wondering why his present wasn't there. Then my mother walked out to him and most likely told him that he'd lost and to just give up. We both laughed as I faced Tom once again.

"Well this isn't exactly how I imagined this but here we go." He took my hands and took a deep breath. "Okay, we both know I'm no good with words so I'm just gonna say it. Y/N, will you marry me?" He had gotten down on one knee and pulled the little box from his pocket. I started crying as I nodded my head. I didn't know if I would be able to speak properly so the head nodding would have to suffice. He slipped the ring onto my finger and then stood back up, grabbing my face and kissing me passionately.

I heard my family "ooh" and "aw" and as I continued passionately kissing my drop dead gorgeous fiance I flipped them all the bird.

Later that evening, all of the "kids" were opening their Christmas Eve gifts. Owen got the entire Elephant and Piggie book collection. This was my gift to him. He's always loved to be read to and these books were my go-to when watching him. Next was Aiden, who received his first little league baseball glove. He was starting in spring and he couldn't be more excited.

Over the last two years I have turned Brett into a full fledged Capitals fan. The only thing he asked me for was a signed Ovi puck, which Tom gladly asked his captain for during practice.

"You better take good care of that puck. You have no idea how awkward it is to ask your friend for an autograph." The whole family let out a chuckle and Brett promised to protect it with his life. Lastly, since I won I got to open a second gift.

"I have decided to give my second gift to Tom because honestly I don't think anything could quite live up to that first gift." He kissed my cheek and then I went to the tree, grabbing a gift I wrapped just this morning. "From me to you." I handed him the box and he looked at me skeptically as he untied the pink ribbon around the blue wrapping paper. He unwrapped it slowly;his eyes widened and his hand shot over his mouth.

"Are you serious? Is this for real?" I could see him trying to hold back tears as he read the little note.

"Well, tell everyone what it is." I said, trying to hold back tears myself. Everyone encouraged him to share. He took in a deep breath and began reading the little note.

"Okay, okay. It says, 'Hi Daddy, I can't wait to meet you. Expected August 24, 2017' and there's a sonogram." The whole room cheered except Owen and Aiden since they didn't know what was happening. "We're having a baby." Tom said to me.

"We're having a baby." I repeated and we kissed again. We looked at the sonogram and showed it to the rest of the family.

"He looks like a little peanut." Tom said and then he corrected himself, "Or she." Everyone laughed and then my grandmother got up and announced that we should all celebrate. Everyone that could got drunk off their asses, luckily there was apple cider for myself and the children. The next morning we woke up to presents galore, but I already had all that I needed.
