Ancient Rome, Year 71 A.D.
Hilaria was in her front yard and she spotted a glowing object. She called Blandus, her friend, out from her house; they were spending the day together and had just eaten lunch. He came out of the doorway, a piece bread in hand.
"What's the matter?" he asked, finishing off the last bite of bread. She shrugged, gesturing her hands to the sphere glistening in the midday sunlight. He walked over to where she was standing and his eyes widened with a mixture of amusement and awe. "What is that?!"
"I don't know, that's why I called you. What do you think it is?"
"It's not from our world," he said, still dazed at the glowing orb before him.
"Do you think it's from the gods?"
"It has to be! They must have sent us something. Maybe it's a sign," he bent forward to the orb, inching his fingers closer to the mysterious object to pick it up. Too close for Hilaria's comfort.
"DON'T TOUCH IT!" she scolded. He jumped at the snap and stared at her with wide eyes before shaking it off and laughing.
"Come on, it can't kill us." he rolled his brown eyes, brushing off the nerves from being startled. He couldn't seem to resist being drawn to the object. It radiated a divine energy his curiosity couldn't help but be drawn to. He brushed the surface of the glossy sphere and fell forward with a yelp.
In a split second, a beam of light shot through the sky.
"BLANDUS, NO!" it was too late. He caught her wrist in a grip for dear life. She fell forward with him into the growing light radiating from the orb. In seconds, all that remained was an eerie silence that rang throughout all of Rome.
