The sun peaked through the entrance of the burrow, it glared brightly upon a tom, turning his gray fur to silver. The air was uncomfortably hot within the den, and the cat suddenly moved, he turned groggily in the direction of the light only to let out a low groan and shield his eyes away from the blazing glow.

Now yawning the warrior stared hazily around, though the sun lightened the front of the den, the back still remained very dark and the cat had to allow his eyes to adjust. The tom reached out his forepaws, his tail quivering slightly from the stretch. When his paws had met unusually warm fur, he was simply too tired to notice and began to lightly groom his flank, making sure to take long strides with his tongue.

                                                                    ~Ashfur's POV~

..Eh..Good enough ..

Ashfur thought as he stared down at his messily groomed pelt, the fur spread in different directions making it look like a kit had preformed the action, Ashfur felt his ears lower down at the sudden thought but quickly shook it off

The warrior then glanced up above, gazing at the roof of the den, a mixture of leaves and mud. He let out a sigh of frustration

Did I really sleep here again?

He then dug his claws into the cool soil, his eyes hooded

..It was...

...It was because of her again wasn't it..

Ashfur felt his body burn up with heat at just the thought of her and he glared down at his paws, which were now carelessly scaring the earth below

...Whatever....

When Ashfur staggered up to crouch upon paws, his tail seemed to brush by something odd, it felt warm and Ashfur let a mew of surprise slip by

The tom slowly turned around, the small den making the motion difficult. Hidden within the darkness lay a small body, areas of its fur seemed to be caked in dry mud, and it breathed lightly, the figures ear occasionally twitching as if in a light sleep

The gray warrior's eyes grew wide and he stumbled backwards

The cat blended in so well with the shadows that Ashfur didn't even notice him!

Ashfur's gaze then seemed to settle as he rested his eyes upon the sleeping tom

He looks so peaceful...perhaps he's having a good dream...

Ashfur wondered quietly, his tail stirring up the dirt as it lightly tapped the ground. The gray tom then tilted his head, he almost didn't want to wake him up but he knew that Brambleclaw most likely went complaining to Firestar about the patrol yesterday and staying here would only get them into more trouble than they already were

Ashfur then blinked, he closed his eyes as he felt his heart start to throb painfully

Memories of the previous  day suddenly came flooding back at once and it was too much for the grief stricken cat to handle

The image of Squirrelflight haunted him, how the she-cat just blindly went along with that mouse brain's words

She talked of him as if he were a kit, "He can be difficult at times" , Ashfur held back a growl but couldn't stop his tail from lashing

How could she treat me like that?!

A sudden thought then appeared within his mind

It shouldn't be a surprise though...she was always trying to trick him into thinking she actually cared about him... saying things like how she wanted to be friends...
