She never liked scary movies. Not because she believed them, but because her whole childhood was spent living in fear. Fear of when her father would come home. Fear for her mothers life. Fear that she'd say the wrong thing. Sometimes it didn't even matter. She spent so much of her life in fear, that seeking it out voluntarily seemed farcical to her.

Now things were different though. She had become something to be feared instead. She had become a fox in the night. Her enemies didn't see her coming. She could feel their fear though. She could see it in their eyes.

Kai walked into her office then, and shut the door behind him—pulling her from her thoughts. Her office was modern, and nice enough for a low level agent in the city. His dark hair was slicked to the side, and he wore a nice shirt and dress pants. His beauty always showed itself in new ways each time she looked at him. He walked to her desk and propped himself on the side of it nearest to her, and glared down at her.

"Ria, we really must get going, there are trains to catch, sights to see, throats to slit..." He trailed off. He had given her the nickname Ria shortly after they met four years ago, short for Valeria. It was what her grandmother had called her, too, but she didn't tell Kai that. She shifted in her chair to turn away from him and towards her computer. Her brown hair fell out of place and she pushed it back out of her face with frustration. The last mission had not gone as planned.

"I'm aware, Kai. I leave the planning to you, let me do what I do best."
"Instill fear? Coo at kittens? Play cello concerto in A minor?" He asked with his usual scintillating wit. He walked to the window overlooking the city then and watched the cars go by. They were only on the third floor after all. She turned to look at him then, and their eyes locked. The blue of his eyes held so many secrets, and as she held his gaze she wondered what he saw when he looked into her own eyes. Dull gray irises, tanned skin from their last excursion to South Africa. He smiled at her.

Ria broke their eye contact then, rose from her chair and pulled on her coat , then slid her laptop into her bag, along with her phone and gloves. Kai put his arm out gesturing for her to take it. Dubiously, she obliged. She knew what this mission required. She had to wear a mask, each time required a new identity. This time was different though. This time required her to wear the mask of Kai Adler's wife.
