Chapter 3

"The truth. It is a beautiful and terrible thing, and must therefore be treated with great caution."

The car stopped and I groaned undoing my seatbelt, since the strap had conveniently jammed before I heard Landon speak.
"What the hell is wrong with you?!? I mean do you have a death wish or something!!!" Landon said as he hit his hand against the steering wheel.
I slowly lifted my head so I could know what exactly he was speaking to.
Only to see a head of bright pink hair framed around a face wearing large black sunglasses. But if not by the hair then by the signature wide smile that just slightly hinted at insanity it was easy to know who it was standing in the middle of the road, only about 2 feet from the front of the car.
"Finley what if I'd hit you!!! And Winnie's probably got whiplash!!! I mean what if she'd hit her head on the dashboard! What were-" Landon yelled but the rest was drowned out by the angry honking of cars behind us.
I saw Finley roll her eyes as she walked around the car and hopped into the back seat without a word.
She sat there for a second, acting as if we'd just parked and picked her up like any normal, non-suicidal person would.
"Landon are you going to drive, your kinda holding up traffic." Finley said in a slightly irritated tone as she pointed her thumb over her shoulder indicating to the many angry drivers behind us.
Now usually I'd find this completely hilarious, but right now her attitude was actually pissing me off. Probably a mixture of the fact that I barely knew her, I'd just finished dealing with a bunch of idiots, and the honking was obstructing any thoughts besides irritation that were going through my head at the current moment.
"Just take me home, I prefer not to hang out with total manics-, no let me rephrase that because I usually do like the crazy ones. What I meant was that I'd prefer not to hang out with the type of maniacs that enjoy throwing themselves in front of moving cars. I like the fun but not the actually clinically insane and mentally unstable maniacs."
I said with a bit of mocking hidden in my voice that was easily covered by the sourness of my mood that was easily detected.
"Oh good one! But trust me though people have tried, it's not yet been proven that I'm actually clinically insane. But seriously let's just go eat, the boys are already there and if we don't hurry the entire restaurant will either be in flames, out of food, or both by the time we walk through the doors." Finley said and by the look on her face it didn't seem like she was kidding.
"Please Lux, I'll buy you a milkshake! Please just come and if you don't like it in the first 20 minutes we're there I'll take you home." Landon pleaded as he finally started to drive again.
I rolled my eyes, deciding to remain silent as we drove only a few more minutes before pulling into the parking lot of an older looking building though covered in neon lights with lots of large glass windows. It seemed to be fairly crowded, teenagers exiting their cars and laughing with their friends as they entered the building.
