"The mall? Why do we have to go there?" I asked as I slouched against the "inconspicuous" Rolls Royce passenger seat. Adriel and I were supposed to be meeting Karl- our manager- later on before our performance. We still had a few spare hours though.
"Yes! We haven't gone shopping in a while together and maybe I can finally get you a date." Adriel said with way too much enthusiasm for a Sunday afternoon.
I honestly didn't understand how she could be so awake. It was barely 11:46 a.m. and I was used to waking up around 2 p.m. My mind still slow from waking up early, it took me a few minutes to finally register what she said.
"Wait, why do I need a date? What if I'm perfectly fine being the single Pringle that I am?" My voice growing defensive as I waved my hand to the side.
Honestly, I was perfectly fine being single. I didn't have anyone to depend on which was fine with me considering I was pretty independent already. Plus, I didn't have to wait for someone else all the time and freely check out anyone I found attractive.
"Look, Shay. I understand that you have the whole variety of fish in the sea. But, you could still try to look forward to having a relationship. To have someone to be there for you." She said with a defeated look on her face. A few moments later, her expression softened as her hand made its way to mine.
"I know you don't like the prospect of having to depend on someone all time. But, at least you'd be able to spend life's moments with someone. I mean look at Nurien and Adan." She said and brought up a pair of our best friends.
Nurien and Adan had grown up together, they were the best of friends. But, when Adan started hanging out with other people Nurien was left to fend for himself. He had alwaysdepended on Adan's outgoing personality to do the things he couldn't.
We met him during this time and started to hang out with him soon after. Only a few months after knowing him, we were inseparable. He still hadn't heard a word from Adan and he began to get worried. We decided to help look for him but couldn't find him. We convinced Nurien it was best to let go. Nurien then tried to discover himself as well. But he had Adriel and I to help too.
A year later we discovered that he was bisexual and that I was pansexual. Adriel was and will probably always be the heterosexual fujoshi she is. Although, a few months after this revelation Adan decided to make an appearance. He wasn't in ruined clothes though, he was actually well dressed and had just gotten back from preforming in Australia.
In the time he was gone he had gotten a career in the preforming arts. He was actually a conductor. He had gotten into the wrong crowd at first but that was in the past. Nurien, however, was now more independent than ever and had the guts to punch the guy. Although, they had made up and started dating a year later and still are. This was three years ago.
We were now 20 years old except Adan being the only 22 year old in the group. I shook my head and said, "But, they're different. They were always in love. I don't think I could ever care for someone that deeply." It was true. I didn't even love my parents that much. They were always gone, even when I was younger. I barely met Adriel when I was 15 due to my manager also signing her a contract. I was still getting used to them.
Adriel didn't say anything but kept her hand on mine in a comforting manner. I may have still been getting used her but she was already like a sibling. Mostly an unwanted sibling, but the feeling was still there.
I sighed and felt as though I had to give in now, or that I'll end up a thirty-five year old virgin and die alone. "Fine. I'll go on one date. But, they can't know about our being in the preforming arts and how I managed to graduate out of high school at the age of fourteen."
