Vincent and I had soon trekked off to find the others and saw them eating outside of a Chinese food restaurant. I was quite surprised when Adriel befriended them instead of making new enemies. She did it often when people would insult her or Nurien and I. It wasn't as if she could help herself though, it sort of ran in her family. Her mother and grandmother had the shortest tempers I've ever witnessed.
A few years back, I believe it was on Christmas day her mother had went on a tirade when her brother- Adriel's Uncle Quinn- spilled the hot chocolate on the dinner table. Another time, last year actually, her grandmother got out her cane and started chasing after her cousin Jared for "talking smack".
Although, it's quite concerning, but also very entertaining. Of course, when it's not you though. A few months back I was the one being yelled at and chased after. Especially not when it's both of them, it's actually terrifying.
We reached them and took seats from other tables to bring them to theirs. Once we sat, it was surprisingly a comfortable atmosphere considering we all had just met. But, it was nice to meet these new people. "Have more connections", as Karl would put it.
Speaking of Karl, "Hey, Adriel. Has Karl called yet?" I asked her, beginning to worry more.
Although, instead of getting an answer, a rather rude person interrupted. "Hey. Look what we have here." He said as if he couldn't find a better script to read from.
The persons voice was gruff and deep, and had a slight rasp to it. It was like he didn't talk much, although I'm sure he couldn't keep his mouth shut if the world depended on it.
I turned to see a male about the same height as me- 5'8", maybe a few inches shorter. He looked as if he just got out of Twilight. His skin was a ghastly shade, which couldn't be healthy and had this scowl on his face that made him seem as if he didn't smile.
He ran a hand over his over-gelled, black hair, before continuing, "The gay ballerina and his group of sissy-lalas." I groaned inwardly at his awful insult. I ran a hand over my face before looking back at Adriel who was actually holding back laughter.
In all honesty, it was kinda funny. We had seen worse bullies. Vincent beside me looked as if he wanted to disappear. I wonder if the guy was actually just messing around with them or actually insulting them. I felt bad for the guy if he really was a bully. But I wondered why. I preferred to believe he was a friend. Unfortunately, I didn't get the chance to ask as he walked away as he was pulled by an older looking male who was grumbling something. Once I turned back to Vincent and the rest they were talking about some group who rapped.
I let it go but couldn't help but wonder why there was the faint presence of sadness in the atmosphere around them. Although, I chose to ignore it and listen in to the conversation. Turned out Leo was explaining how she discovered K-Pop- or Korean Pop music- to Adriel who had an ear bud in one ear looking at what I assumed to be Leo's phone. She had a slight smile gracing her lips as she seemed to be immersed in the video. It was nice to see that they could get along so well. I felt a slight tug at my heartstrings before shaking off the feeling, excusing myself to go use the men's room.
Upon entering, I pushed the door open with my left hand while the other ran through my curled hair. I wasn't sure if I had straightened it earlier or not but shook the thought off once I looked up. Right before me was the kid from before. Except this time he was the once who was being bullied. The pacifist in me was telling me to handle this logically and without violence but like all the other times like this, I became defensive. Having only met the kid but already feeling responsible for him, considering he had appeared younger. Without fully thinking about what I was doing, despite knowing that I had a performance not long after, I rushed towards the three males who were pushing and jabbing at the smaller black haired male.
