CUCAKOOOO KOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
Mak Minah woke up hesitantly to the sound of the rooster. She rubbed her eyes and got up from her old worn out mattress. She looked around the room and saw her 2 daughters sleeping soundly. The room was only 8 by 5 feet big. Just enough to fit all 3 of them in. Trying carefully not to step on her children, she took out a bamboo mat and rolled it out. It was time for Fajr prayers. She wore her long white clothing and faced in the direction to Mecca. It was still dark outside and the rain that showered last night resulted in a cold morning. The sound of chirping crickets and croaking of frogs was echoing throughout the night.
After bowing for the last time, Mak Minah quickly got up and kept the mat. She then grabbed her towel and walked outside towards the well. Tip toeing towards the door, the wooden planks below her creaked as she made her way to the door. The house was definitely in poor conditions. The rafters almost opening, some wooden parts that had termite investation and even the light bulb needs repairing. Yet again, there was no one to help as money she earned was just enough for the month. Her little savings did her no good to afford new materials for the home.
Mak Minah put on her wooden clog slippers and walked behind the house. The well which situated in the middle of the field and had a shed at the side of it. Cladding herself in the towel, she was took the plastic pail and scooped up some water. The water was icy cold, making her goosebumps jump up as she bathe herself. She kept reminding herself on what to do and breathed in deeply just to absorb the tasks of today. She had so much to do and so little time to do it. She remembered her love, Osman. The man who she loved so much. How she missed his loving heart, how she missed his warm smile. Taking on the world together was what they promised to do during the nikah ceremony. Even though poor, they promised to love each other. Until it happened. She quickly finished bathing and got back into the house to wake her children up for the day. This time, she vowed she will bring back enough food for her family.
