Driving frantically to Cadence's house, I feel a cold sweat down my cheek. I feel like I have to run away from him. Romeo, I did love him at one point. Now, all I want is her. Cadence. I feel like she understands, but at the same time I don't. Maybe I forced her into that kiss yesterday. Did I?
"Cadence," I whine.
She looks up into my eyes. Her smile greets me. Yet, now I don't know what to say. What could I say?
I just shake my head, meaning never mind. Her eyes grow worried for a second she then looks back at the road. Speeding to her house I finally get to the street. This is strange. Looking around I find broken houses. Why does this neighbor look, well, bedridden of its money? I give her a confused look. Cadence doesn't see my glare. I finally get up to the address of the house. I don't say anything when I pull up.
I try looking at her, but she never looks back. She looks into her lap the whole time. What am I supposed to say?
Getting out of the car, I hardly a wait. I look back and see Cadence's teary eyes. The redness from the tears scar her eyes. I walk around, to open the car door for her. She gets out slowly and runs into my arms. I hear the sorrow in her cry. "I've been meaning to tell you. It... just never came around."
I don't say anything. Once again, what was I supposed to say? Her head rests deeply into my neck. And that's when I see it. The bruise all along her shoulder. I let go.
"What's that on your back?" She looks at me, confusion on her face. Then she realizes what I was looking at. She cries out in pain when I touch it softly. But before I can do anything else, she runs to the front door. Opening it. Tears still stain her face. Walking in I see how poor she is. I look at her. Cadence just looks at the ground. Wondering, how can she look so rich. She looks rich on the outside, but she's poor on the inside. People are right, you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. We walk through the old house. It sighs with dust, I feel a little sad for it. Walking through the long hallway we finally get to her room. She slowly turns the handle. Flipping the light switch on, I see the sadness that surrounds the room. A beat up, worn out bed. A small closet, with ugly clothes I've never seen her wear. And small posters that almost fall off the wall. Cadence walks inside the worn out room. Turning to me she forces herself to look into my eyes, failing to do that she plops onto the bed and starts to wimpier. I walk towards her and instantly drop to my knees. Holding her close, I don't say anything. I just comfort her quietly. I don't want to say the wrong thing, and then make matters worse. I mean what could I say in this situation? After a few minutes she finally breaks the embrace. Standing up along with her she moves swiftly to her closet. "This is where it all started." She says. I just nod and sit back down on the bed. She opens the closet to show all the clothing inside. To the very far right rich looking clothes sit stiffly on the rack. But to the left the torn ratty clothes ashamed of themselves hide off into the corner . She then moves along to my side. She pulls up the sleeves of her sweater. Looking at her arm up and down was probably the hardest thing ever. I see the scars on the bottom, and long dark bruises along the top of her arm. Scars. Cuts, maybe? No, she's not like that. And then those bruises. Those long black bruises. Is she abused? But how? Her voice soon fines my ears."I'm sorry, I haven't told you about this. I wanted to really. But... I ... was scared. I thought you would run away. I don't want to lose you. " She said softly. "Cadence, I'd never ever run away. I will stick with you through thick and thin. You've changed me. I'll stay with you through anything." I whisper softly. She looks at me a faint smiles grows on her face. But soon it leaves again. She reach under the bed, slowly picking up a shoes box. Opening it a razer, pictures, and a small notebook soon become visable. Looking at the things inside, I don't know what to think. I sit there for a minute. Then the sound of sirens grow outside the house. I look at Cadence with a confused look. But Cadence just laughs. "They're always here." But then a man runs inside the room. "Dad?" Cadence says confused. He says nothing. He just goes straight in front of the old rug and throws it up in the air. Dust flies all over. He unlatches the door. "Get in there now!" Cadence's dad yells. So that's what we do. Cadence jumps off the bed dropping the shoe box on to the ground with a loud crash and runs down into the celler. while I follow closely. When we reach the bottom the drops down and I hear the door close. I feel Cadence hug me tightly. I hug hard back. All we hear is the voices above yelling orders, yet nothing else to keep us calm. I here a soft wimpier come from Cadence. I keep her close. Soon, all I hear is the front door open to Cadence's bedroom. Steps slowly inch to way over to were we are. From what I can hear the rug torn from its place on the floor. Soon, the squeaking of the door fill my ears footsteps coming close. I close my eyes and hug Cadence."Who is it?" I choke out. No answer soon, a hand grabs us roughly. a swift punch comes from the stranger soon everything becomes dark. I can hear Cadence scream for me but its too late. the darkness consumes me.
