The vermillion blood stained wall was more of a bad memory or a reminder of what happened the day of the storm. The day trees were ripped out of the ground, houses torn from were they stood, and the giant statues whipped across town and ruined the place I called home.
The screams of my family were horrific. I cried and yelled for them but all I heard were screams. The screams of my own family being burned and ripped apart, alive. All I had was my puppy, Duck. At the time, I was 15 then. I'm 17 now and still, my town isn't even close to being put together. I lived off nature for two years and kept my dog alive also. Today my life would change for better and for worse.

The bus taking us to Minnesota came to a rickety squeaky stop. I could tell it was an old bus as the yellow paint had chipped off and most of the metal was rusted off and the overall appearance of it was just No.
I sighed softly and looked at Duck, he gave me a disgusted look back.
"I know, it does look pretty bad" I mumbled "but hey it can't get worse than this....well...I guess it could, but hey let's not think about that though. We are going to a new place, I'll be going to school and hopefully meet some friends. I guess" I grumbled, mainly talking to only duck only I knew he couldn't understand me, but we have been through so much together that I sometimes think he does.
Since the hurricane struck, our town was a complete disaster and not even rescuers could get through the debris, that's why it had taken 2 years to get a bus here to take us to a different state.
You see, me and my kind aren't humans. We are what you would call creatures. There were only 100 of us, we were protected here from hunters or scientists wanting to test things on us. But when our home was destroyed, the government was first to hear about it and went right to work trying to relocate us.
50 people who were dragons were being relocated to North Dakota.
25 people who were shape shifters were being relocated to Texas.
15 people who were gnomes were going to Texas.
As for the rest of us, we didn't have a specific group to be in as we were all different type of creature. We were being relocated to Minnesota, or little Antarctica as I heard the dragons say.
I didn't mind moving, as my family was now dead. The thing I wasn't looking forward to, was school. I've never been to a school but it doesn't sound very....fun.
"Ryder Daniels?!" A man called out, searching the large group of people that were circling the bus.
"Cmon duck" I mumbled to the German Shepard next to me who followed me over to the man.
"Uh, that's me" I said, looking up at the taller older male.
He scribbled something onto the clipboard.
"What are you?"
"A Cross-Shifter..?" That came out more than a question than an answer, oh well.
"Get on the bus"
I nodded and stepped on the moving pile of crap. I walked to the back and sat down. Duck sat down then laid across my lap. I smiled at him and gently patted his head.
Once everyone was in the bus that was going to Minnesota, the rusty bucket revved it's motor and began its way to Minnesota.
I laid my head on the windows and slowly closed my eyes with a small yawn. Duck had also fallen asleep. Luckily, my sleep was dreamless, yet peaceful. That was the first one in a long time. Usually i had a dream about my father or another family member. Me and my father had a very strong bond together. We were inseparable, like best friends. I remember putting on hats and dancing around in our kitchen just for fun. I would always tried to beat him in a fight. I'd always win because he'd let me which I liked, but that was all gone now, and I was in a world that I never wanted to see. A world with out my family in it.
The bus ride took a while, it was also very bumpy and almost made me sick.
I slowly woke up when a man shook he awake and then shoved a plate of hot food in my hand and set a dog bowl down for duck.
I immediately dug into the food, not realizing how hungry I actually was. Once I was done, I gave the guy my plate and smiled a little.
The overhead speaker came on and a very gruff man spoke.
"Attention. One of my soldiers will be coming over and inserting a tracker into your home and imprinting a barcode into you wrist" he said, putting the microphones down.
I took in a sharp breath and let a shaky one out. I absolutely hated needles or anything that went under my skin.
Soon it was my turn and a man took my arm, flipped it and put the needle into my skin. "Count to 3" he said calmly.
I nodded and counted to three in my head, then felt a needle go all the way under my skin. I whimpered a little as it hurt extremely bad. Once the guy was done, he barcoded my wrist then moved to the next guy. Duck looked at me and jumped onto the seat next to me and licked my wrist and looked at me sadly.
"I'm okay buddy" I said quietly and kissed ducks nose and got a lick on the cheek back which made me smile.
The rest of the trip was boring but very pretty. Minnesota was dusted in a white blanket. The trees looked fake. I've never actually seen snow in my life as it never snowed in the red wood forest. I honestly loved that place, it was calm and always nice there. I remember playing in the grass when I was about two and climbing trees when I was 5. I smiled a bit at my memory's but then frowned knowing i would never see my family or home again. Everything was taken away from me, well, except for duck, my new best friend.
We soon parked in a driveway and my name was called. I slowly stood up and grabbed my bag. I walked to the front, duck behind me. Once outside, the doors shut and took off. I frowned a bit and shivered a little. I walked to the door and knocked on it.
A middle aged woman with bright hazel eyes opened it with a gasp.
"Henry! Gillian! Jaxx! Ryder is here!" She yelled, probably to her family.
Two teenagers came down the steps, both looked about a year older then me.
Jaxx just rolled his eyes at me and left to go back to whatever he was doing before. The woman pulled me into a hug and smiled. "It's so good to meet you!" She squealed.
Duck walked around and then went and sat next to me. Gillian a girl with bouncy red hair and blue eyes smiled at me.
"Hi, I'm Gillian" she said with a smile.
I mirrored the smile and then spoke "uh...hi" I said quietly.
Gillian smiled bigger. "Cmon, I'll show you to your room" she said happily. I followed the girl downstairs and into an already set up room. It looked amazing. The walls were painted back with wolf posters and prints everywhere.
"Your new phone and laptop are on the table. Get settled in" she said happily, then left.
I looked around and smiled a bit, only my frown soon disappeared when I looked outside and only saw a small yard, then a street and a bunch of cars and streets.
Where was I supposed to hunt? There's no woods out there, just a busy street, a small yard and huge buildings. What is this?!
I wanna go back home now. I wanna see my father again. I wanna sit under a blanket in the woods with a flashlight and listen the the animals. I wanna go back home to my family, but I can't. My family is no more. I'm stuck here.
With that thought, a lump formed in my throat and tears brimmed my yellow eyes.
I didn't like it here anymore.
