Prologue
Leigh
My palms were sweating as I walked down the colorful peer beaming from ear to ear. Tonight was the night I would finally swim out to Dredens reef. The shark breeding ground was empty, for this season was not mating season. Maybe if I'm lucky, I will actually see a shark! The thought numbed my brain. I checked my beach bag making sure I had everything.
Snorkel.............................CHECK
Towel................................CHECK
Change of clothes..........CHECK
Water-proof camera.........CHECK
And the mental-list went on as I bounced by the ferris wheel and the bumper cars in my sandy flip-flops.
Fifteen minutes later the beach was within eye sight. Setting down my beach bag in a private nook, I kicked of my sandals, grabbed my camera,my snorkel, and ran into the cool calm water. During December, rip tides weren't a problem in the Gold Cost. That's the main reason my mom let me go to the beach at seven thirty at night.
I ducked my head under water and got a mouth full of salt. I just rolled my eyes and emerged from the surf. I was used to it. By now I could almost touch the small rope, separating the rest of the ocean, to the beaches DO NOT CROSS line. My mother had never alowed me to cross this line. Until now I thought she never trusted me. I just always had that feeling in my stomach, like she never believed in me.
But tonight, all that would wash away, with the help of the salty sea, I would feel invincible. Those feelings of doubt and insecurity, would finally blow float away like bubbles, disappearing seconds before breaking the surface.
With one deep breath, I lifted the crusty rope, and swam to the other side. Looking back the beach looked ant-sized. And I loved it. I breathed one last breath of salty air, and dived back under water swimming towards Dredens reef, underwater camera in hand.

Dredens reef was right in front of me. I smiled and laughed, tiny bubbles escaping from my mouth. Having high hopes to spot a shark, I swam upwards and broke the surface gazing at the beautiful scenery in front of me. Mako Island, was dead ahead of me. I raised my camera, and snapped a picture. Beautiful, I thought and ducked my head under, seeing a shark.
An hour had passed and the sensation of Dredens reef, the beautiful scenery, the colorful corals, the school of fish passing by me , all flashed before my eyes as I felt an electric shock course throughout my body .It tingled up my back and stung its way to my arms. The last thing I saw was a flash of golden orange scales.
An electric eel, I thought right before I blacked out sinking towards the bottom of the ocean.

Bleary eyed, I woke up and stretch my arms. The back of my leg still hurt due to the electric shock caused by the stinging electric shock of the eel. I was still confused as to how I got here on...Mako island and to what I saw down there. Since when do eels have orange scales? I thought and got up, dazed at the sight before me. Beautiful sandy beaches and leafy green forests stood, looking prettier by the minute. In the distance I could just make out the cone of a volcano. Guided by the light of the full moon, I disappeared into the foliage and tried to find a way out, pushing the leaves and running into cobwebs, at the same time.
I checked the time on my camera, ten o' clock. Great. Moms gonna kill me! I thought. I shivered. My bathing suit didn't protect me from the cold weather at night. I kept climbing, snapping trees and tripping over shrubs with my flip flops to blame.
After what seemed like a year, I finally came upon some rocks to rest on. Not the best seat in the house but, it'll have to do, I thought as I clicked. I gazed at the river below me and trudged to a smaller rock. Still staring, my foot got caught on a sharp point of a rock and I tripped head first into a hole. "What the...?" was all I could manage to stamper as I received from the nasty fall. I looked around me, from the sandy floors, to the rocky ceiling, the cave had it all. Suddenly I looked up, noticing a glowing light coming from another room. My curiosity was to strong and I gave in. I swallowed hard and cautiously made my way into the next room. Entering I gazed in awe at the small pool in the room and looked around me. The ground was sandy and I kept walking, carefully surveying the pool. I gasped. That could be my way out! I stepped in an dived into the glowing pool. Opening my eyes underwater I could just make out a blurry exit. Perfect I thought smiling and started swimming upwards. Emerging, I took a breath. Just seconds later, the water around me started to bubble. What was happening? Is this some sort of private jacuzzi? Is Ashton Cutcher gonna come out of nowhere and scream "gotcha!" Questions swirled around all jumbled up in my head like a whirlpool sucking in a cruise ship. Orbs of light began to glow around me and I looked up. The moon was visible from the cone in the volcano. As soon as the moon passed. The jacuzzi ceased and the orbs of light disappeared. I looked around. No Ashton. I just shrugged it off and began swimming to the exit.
