When he returned, a squad of Hydra soldiers greeted him at the front gate.

Brushing past them, he headed down the corridors, now knowing how to navigate this maze.

It was all to soon when he found the Red Skull in a room full of charts and maps. Crossbones no where in sight.

"Mission report, soldier?"

The Winter Soldier stared just past the man at a map of the world.

"A success with a cost, sir..."

"Is the Captain America dead or not!?" He snapped.

"Yes, sir."

If the Red Skull was trying to find out if he was lying, he didn't say a thing. Instead he pressed a buzzer on the metal table by him.

A section of the room opened into a steel room filled with men and women in lab coats.

As the two men walked forward, he noticed that the room ended at a window showing a white room.

His feet kept going on their own accord and eventually he reached the glass. Looking down his eyes widened at the sight below.

"We had an agreement." He whispered.

The Red Skull chuckled. "Trust is for the gullible."

He turned his head just as the first bullet fired.

Ducking on instinct, he withdrew a hidden knife in his boot just as everything faded away.

He came too a moment later with ringing in his ears, as his eyes took in the destruction as half the ceiling had fallen.

An explosion of some sort had hit the base, which explained his lack of hearing. Though when he used one hand to shove his brown hair out of his face, he was shocked to find his own hand covered in his blood.

Fighting the nausea and the numbness of his being, he drew back his metal fist and punched the glass.

It shattered with one hit, and after a quick look to make sure nobody was left in the room, he jumped.

He landed on his feet. Hard.

But ignoring the pain, he rushed over to the machine that stood in the center of the room.

A huge metal chair made of wires and metal, cocooned the female strapped to the chair, head lying limply to the side.

Tearing the restraints off was quick as panic engulfed his mind, though he was relieved to see her breathing.

Then he gently picked her up bridal style, and carried her out.

Out of the base. Out of Hydra.

Just as the place went up in flames.
