"Your excuses have started losing their effect. I think you should start making new ones."
"Come on Kruti. You know this isn't an excuse. I'm really busy" Anahita said as she washed the dishes.
"Hey why don't you feed that crap to someone who is willing to eat it? Your boss is seen in the Tabloid with a new girl every second day! Then how come his secretary doesn't get time to enjoy human stuff?"
Anahita laughed as she shook her head.
"Hey shaking your head won't prove that you're right"
Anahita sighed as she turned to look at her laptop at the kitchen counter. Kruti was looking at her angrily. Thank god they were talking on Skype and not in person otherwise tomorrow the cops would have found her dead body in the house.
"Did you fight with Anurag again?" she asked with a sigh.
"That doesn't matter!" Kruti said immediately but the way her eyes drifted away confirmed Anahita's doubts. She suppressed another sigh. She couldn't blame Kruti for getting angry. If there was something the both sisters shared then it was their hot headed behavior.
"What was it about this time?" Anahita asked softly.
"I said it doesn't matter. Don't try to change the topic!" Kruti said angrily.
"I am not" Anahita assured her. "Shall we take it one at a time? You tell me the reason for your fight and I will let you yell all the abuses at me without making a face. How's that?"
Kruti sighed. "Fine. Anurag acted like a jerk again" she finished glumly.
"Why? Where did he propose you this time?"
"Right in the middle of my conference, can you believe it?" Kruti asked in a horrified voice. "I was copying the minutes of this important meeting when suddenly he calls live right on my boss's id and asks me to marry him in front of all the Board of Directors and management personnel. It's a wonder I wasn't fired."
Anahita pretended to drink a glass of water to hide her anger at Kruti and wondered for the umpteenth time that how could they be best friends when they were so different? Apart from their anger, they had absolutely nothing in common.
"What did you say?" she asked.
"Well I disconnected the call of course. What could I say in front of them all? Yelling at him wasn't an option and threatening to kill him when I see him wouldn't have looked good either."
"Then why don't you say yes and put an end to his misery?" Anahita asked in a frustrated voice. "You know how much Anurag loves you Kruti. You've been together since childhood and that is like, forever. Then why aren't you agreeing to marry him?"
"Oh come on you can't take his side. You're my best friend."
"I'm his friend too" Anahita reminded her.
"Well then you are also my sister. So what if we are cousins? That still gives more weight to our relationship then your friendship with Anurag."
"We're not going to debate about whose relationship is heavier and whose isn't" Anahita said after taking a deep breath. She wondered if this argument was ever going to end. It hadn't shown any sign of doing so since childhood so she doubted if it ever would.
"Forget it" Kruti also took a deep breath and after a moment opened her eyes and looked at Anahita. "I think it would be better if we stick to talking about you. You know how it's with me and Anurag. In the end he'll come back to me so let's just leave it."
