A young Sabina silenced the alarm by hitting the large, grey snooze button. She turned her back on the clock that had rudely woke her, hoping to get five more minutes of sleep.

"Sabina, are you up?!" Sabina's mum called to her from the bottom of the stairs.

"Yes," Sabina replied. Sighing and getting up, she gave up on the extra five minutes of sleep, that were much needed. She yawned and stretched her small and fragile arms, thinking about her lack of sleep due to unwanted thoughts of today.

Despite this lack of sleep, Sabina pulled out her uniform and began to change into it for the first time. She looked herself up and down in the mirror. Her crisp, white shirt was tucked neatly into her formal, black trousers; her white socks, barely visible, at the end of her trousers.

Her navy and sky blue tie caught her eye. She picked it up and wandered down the hall, stopping outside the door at the very end. She raised a small fist and knocked three times, counting to three between each knock. This way people would know that Sabina was on the other side and wouldn't always have to ask 'who is it?'.

"Come in, Sabina," a deep voice said from the other side. A fragile hand pushed down the cold, metal handle and creaked the door open.

"Allan..." Sabina dragged his name out trying to sound sweet.

"Yes, Sabina," he responded, knowing that she was about to ask him a favour.

"Can you please help me," she asked, holding up the material that was balled up in her fist. Allan chuckled, "sure, Sabina." He stood up, took three strides and crouched in front of her. He took the striped tie from her hand and placed it around her shoulders. Sabina watched Allan's hands, but he moved too fast for her to follow what he was doing.

After he had finished tying her tie, Allan wrapped his muscular arms around his little sister and pulled her into his chest.

"Good luck today, lil' sis'. Have fun, you will make some great new friends, I know it," he said before letting go of her.

"Thank you, Al." With that Sabina left her brother's room and finished getting ready.

She finished eating her breakfast just before a knock sounded at the front door. Michael sprinted from the kitchen, eager to start his second year at Falcon High with his best friend, Bobby, who was waiting impatiently on the other side of the door. Sabina's mum picked up her keys and followed behind Michael.

Sabina reluctantly shrugged on her black blazer and shouldered her backpack. After strolling down the hallway, Sabina took her first step out of the big, white door, the one that had kept her prisoner all these years.

A small black shoe connected with the grey concrete outside the door. The first thing Sabina noticed was that the usual dull, grey sky was bright blue and covered in puffy, white clouds that were soaring past, miles above the ground.

As she continued to glance around she saw the green grass; the dew drops blanketing it were the only evidence left of the overnight rain. The usually dull, grey drive seemed brighter today and was showing Sabina the way to the car and out onto the road. The birds could be heard singing their song high up in the trees. Sabina took a deep breath, taking in as much fresh air as her lungs could hold.

Sabina had been out in her back garden before, but it was as if walking through the front door had given her new eyes to see how beautiful the world truly was.
