I walked down the halls and up the stairs aimlessly, not wanting to go home. I told my parents that I was staying here to study, which I did, but I didn't want to go home just yet. I wanted to go visit my friends, who were in the host club, but I didn't want to go during hosting hours, so I wandered the halls.
Finally, hosting hours were over, so I made my way towards the music room 3. I opened the doors and saw the hosts, my friends, sitting on the couches talking. Honey looked toward the door as I walked and. He jumped up and ran over to me, engulfing me in a bear hug.
"Rea-chan!" Honey called out, giggling and smiling like always. I grimaced as he squeezed my torso, but I went unoticed.
"Hey Honey," I greeted him, walking over towards everyone else.
"Reagan my beautiful daughter! It's so good to see you again!" Tamaki said dramatically, standing up to give me a bone crushing hug. I rolled my eyes as a smiled graced my lips from his compliment. You see, Tamaki knew about my family and how.... harsh they can be, so he makes sure that I'm never frowning, as long as he is around. And he succeeds every time.
I give him a hug, along with everyone else, before sitting next to Kaoru. We talked for a while, laughing and chatting, until my phone rang. I pulled it out of my bag, standing up to go answer it. It was my mother.
"Hello, mother," I greeted, making sure my voice was light and carefree sounding. Everyone continued talking, while Tamaki kept glancing at me from time to time.
"Hello, Reagan. You have been at school for two and a half hours studying, when are you going to come home?" She asked her voice coming across as slightly forceful. I shrugged my shoulders.
"I don't know, mother. I can come home now if you want?" I stated.
"Please do, your father wants to talk to you as well," my mother stated, hanging up the phone. You see, when my mother says that, that means I didn't something bad in their eyes and I have to be punished. Now, they don't beat me, but they scream and yell at me, calling horrible names and threatening to take me out of Ouran Academy. Sighing I pick up my bag.
"Sorry guys, I've got to go. My parents want me to come home," I informed them. Tamaki looked at me worriedly, as Kaoru watched me intently.
"I can walk you down to your limo if you want," Kaoru offered. I smiled and nodded, motioning for him to follow. He got up and walked with me out the door and down the hallways. "So, I don't mean to pry, but why did you flinch?" He asked, once we were close to the stairs. I looked up at him. "When Honey hugged you, you flinched. Why?" Kaoru elaborated. My eyes widened as I knew what he was talking about. I looked away as we got to the end of the stairs and continued walking. I debated telling everything, cause it would make sense without it. Finally, I chose my answer.
"My parents have a really bad temper, and they scream and yell at me a lot because in not an ordinary girl, who likes dresses and skirts. They call me useless, a mistake, and a bunch of other really rude words that, frankly, no one should be called. After several years of this going on, I finally had a breakdown, and I started.... cutting myself. I started with my wrists, but then I realized the uniform sleeves would get shorter, so I stopped cutting wrists and went to my stomach. They aren't deep, and and they aren't long, but they're there. I haven't cut in a week, but they are still kind of tender," I explained, keeping my eyes focused in front of me. Kaoru was silent for a moment.
"Do you believe them?" He asked. I stopped and looked up at him.
   "What?" I whispered.
"Do you believe what they tell you, what they call you?" Do you believe them?" He asked. His voice sounded so broken, and I knew that it hurt him to know what I did. I looked to the ground and nodded. Tears brimmed my eyes and all of those words flashed through my mind, saddening me. Kaoru walked towards me and pulled me into a gentle hug. My face was buried in his chest while his head rested on mine. "Your beautiful. You know that? You are a beautiful, smart, funny, lovable girl who just needs to be told that. You are treated so unfairly, yet you still smile every day. Just know, that I'll be there for you, to help you and make sure you know that every day. I promise you that," Kaoru said, lifting his off of mind. I lifted my head to look at him. He smiled a soft smile, leaning down, and kissing me gently on the cheek before letting go and backing up a step. "I'll be there for you. I'll be your best friend, your shoulder to cry on, and I'll never hurt you. I'll protect you, as long as you promise to let me," Kaoru said. I smiled, a tear rolling down my face.
"I promise, Kaoru," I said softly. He smiled and nodded, taking my hand in his, before leading me out to my limo.
