Chapter 2 - Cafe

          I met Mercy at the café in downtown L.A. When we arrived we walked inside and just so happen to see Derrick sitting in the corner booth with his buddies.  Mercy says “find us a table while I run to the ladies room please.”  “Will do” I say.  I find a table and it just has to be close to Derrick and his buddies.  I couldn’t resist sitting close to him so I could listen to his laugh.  He has that kind of laugh that makes you want to laugh too.  We sure picked a good time to come here.  My heart is racing just seeing him there.

          Meanwhile, I’m waiting for my friend and Derrick decides to come over.  “So I did see you again.  Glad to see you.  I was thinking about calling you today.  Guess I don’t have to call now.”  “Oh really?  I was wondering if you would call or if you changed your mind,” I said.  “Actually I was going to call you and ask if you wanted to catch a movie with me sometime.”  My mind goes into hyper drive and I start blushing all over again.  “Sure I will go catch a movie with you,” I tell him.  Just then Mercy returns from the ladies room.  “I will call you later,” says Derrick and heads back to his table.

          Mercy says, “What was that I heard? He is going to call you later?”  “Yea we are going catch a movie later,” I say.  She smiles and says “you like him don’t you?”  “You know I do and I can’t believe this is really happening!  It is almost like a dream come true for me.  Ever since I laid eyes on him I have been daydreaming about him.  He is so cute and sweet.  He just makes my heart melt whenever he talks to me.  He has the voice that can soothe an aching heart,” I tell her. 

          We order our drinks, I get a Dr. Pepper and she gets a Root Beer.  We sit there for a couple of minutes and wait for our waitress to come back around and we order our food.  I ordered an old fashioned hamburger with melted cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion, and mayo, with a side of French fries.  It was hot and fresh when it arrived and the smell was so good.  Mercy ordered a roast beef sandwich with some chips.  It looked just as good as my hamburger.  We sat there and enjoyed our meal over some great conversations since we haven’t seen each other in about 2 weeks.  She goes to college at Stanford with my brother.  She is visiting because her mother needed her.  Her dad died with my dad in that car accident.  When we finish up we decide to say our goodbyes till later and say to each other “see you later.”

           I walk out of the café and Derrick is standing up against my car waiting for me.  “I thought you were going to call me later?” I ask.  His reply, “I couldn’t wait till later.  I can’t stop thinking about you.  I was wondering if you wanted to catch that movie now?”  “Sure I guess” I say.  “Great, I will meet you there and we can decide what to see then,” he said.  So I got in my car and drove to the movie theater.
