The usually dreaded Monday morning came around and for once, I was happy to get out of bed. With a smile on my face I walked into the kitchen to be greeted by my sister and her husband lip locking by the counter, another reason why I was in desperate need of a new place. “Good morning” I mumbled.
“Oh, morning!” Charley replied, rather shocked; most likely at the site of me out of bed before midday for once. I decided to skip breakfast and jump straight in the shower; I let the water cascade over my body as I thought of all the possibilities today could bring. All weekend I have been nothing but excited to get back into work instead of moping around the house, I even went shopping on Saturday to get some appropriate attire for the office. Of course, being on a tight budget I had to bargain hunt but as soon as my first pay cheque comes through I’ll be able to buy all the dresses I passed up buying this weekend. I wrapped a towel around my body as I brushed my teeth and returned to my bedroom. I had already planned my outfit in advance; I put my clothes on and checked myself in the mirror. I was wearing a dress very similar to the tan one I wore at my interview, only this dress was a deep purple. I wore a black blazer over the top and finished it off with a pair of black heels. I kept my make-up fresh, I’d hate to overdo it like the blonde receptionist I encountered last time I was there, and allowed my hair to fall into waves.
I decided to leave home early to allow time to stop by a coffee shop first, obviously skipping breakfast wasn’t a good idea because now my stomach was rumbling like crazy. After getting a sandwich and a tea to go, I made my way to work. As I neared the building, the nerves started to kick in. I checked the time on my phone; 7:45. I began walking over to the lifts as I smiled at the security guard. The doors opened with a ping and I stepped into the elevator and pressed the 37 button. The ride up seemed longer today than it did on Friday, maybe I was just nervous. As the doors opened I rushed out, running into a young man in a suit.
“Oh, sorry!” I rambled as I bent down to help him pick up the folder he dropped, the man simply smiled and walked around me, continuing with his day. As I looked up my eyes were met with that of my boss.
“Good morning, would you like to come into my office and we’ll discuss your role in detail?” Mr Styles offered. I politely accepted and followed him, once inside his office I took a seat on one of the chairs as he sat behind his desk.
“There are many things that you’ll be doing for me as a PA, but the main duties you’ll have will be things like answering my calls, if you think they’re important or if they’re from family then direct them to me. If not, simply tell them I’m busy. Another will be arranging my meetings, I expect you to carry a diary with you and let me know when I’m free and when I have meetings. Every morning at 9am you are to come in here, hand me my usual black, sugar free coffee and tell me what I have going on for the day. You will accompany me on business deals and meetings, taking notes and then later, in your office you’ll type them up and email them to me. Anything else you have to do, I’ll let you know as it comes up. Understood?” I sat for a moment taking everything he just said in before nodding. This was definitely going to be a challenging job.
6 MONTHS LATER
“Morning Amber” I smiled to the blonde behind reception as I tried to balance two coffees and my paper work in my arms. I waited for the lift to arrive before stepping inside and riding up to the 37th floor. I made my way through the lobby until I reached Harry’s door, I just about managed to knock when the door suddenly opened.
“Saw you on the CCTV walking through the lobby,” he waited a moment before continuing “Come in then” he chuckled as his hand rested on the small of my back guiding me into his office. I placed his coffee on his desk as I waited for him to be seated. He took a sip of his drink before leaning back in his chair and smiling at me.
