Love Written In The Stars

Chapter One

She was sitting out in her back yard watching her little brother play with their 1 year old dog Stella, she's a golden retriever. Nina, 16 years old, a Junior at New Port Harbor High school. Summer is almost over and she is definitely not ready for school to come back. Her phone rings and it's her best friend Kaylie,
"Hello," she says, "Hey, I was wondering if we could go to the mall later?" Kaylie asks. "Sure what time?"
"Umm, maybe 3?"
"That works, I'll just meet you there?"
"Okay, see you then." Nina hangs up the phone.
"Hey Zack, come on let's go inside. You want a snack?" Nina asks her brother, hoping that would bring him inside. Her brother is only 9 years old, in the 5th grade. He goes to New Port Hights elementary school. "Yeah," Zack says, "come on Stella". They head inside and Nina makes her self and her brother a peanut-butter jelly sandwich, and gives Stella a treat. They sit on the couch and watch some cartoons for a while. Their favorite is Adventure Time. Their mom Jessica gets off of work at 5:00. Their dad. They don't know much about their dad. He died when Nina was about 6 years old and her mom was pregnant with Zack. Poor Zack never got to meet him. Sometimes he gets jealous when Nina and their mom tell stories about him because he never got a chance to do things with him.
"Alright, I'm going to the mall with Kaylie. I'll be back sometime around 5," Nina says as she gets up from the couch and grabs her bag, "do you think you can handle yourself being alone for 2 hours?"
"Yes," Zack says. Still paying attention to the television.
"And if you need me, just call me with the home phone. You know my number."
"Got it."
"Are you even listening?"
"Yes! Just go and hang out with your girlfriends."
"Whatever. Love you!" Nina says as she is opening the door to leave.
"Love you too!" Zack says before she closes the door.

Nina arrives at the mall and sees Kaylie in the food court. She has her favorite Starbucks drink, chocolate frappechino. And she got Nina her favorite drink, iced vanilla shake. "Nina!" Kaylie waved her hand, telling Nina to come to her. "What is it?" Nina says.
"Can we go to Victoria's Secret again? I want to get a new pair of undies and a bra."
"Why? What are you going to do with them, admire yourself in the mirror? Send them to your boyfriend?" Nina chuckled. Kaylie's boyfriend is Jake Taylor. He is on the basketball team. They have been dating since the beginning of last school year. Kaylie says it was love at first sight when he saw her in the audience of one of the basketball games.
"No," Kaylie said, "I just want to feel good about myself."
"Sure why not." Nina said.
"You should get something for yourself too."
"Maybe."
They finish their drinks and walk to Victoria's Secret. They look around and see what looks good. They try on the clothes. Kaylie gets a grey lace, shirt with grey panties to go with it. Nina gets a black lace bra and black lace boy shorts. As they exit the store, Nina bumps into a guy. "Oops, sorry." Nina says surprised.
"Dont worry about it." He says.
They look at each other for a second and then the bond breaks when Kaylie says, "Come on Nina!" Nina walks away and has a light smile. "What was that all about?" Kaylie asks.
"Oh, I just bumped into some guy." Nina says in a sort of happy way.
"Some guy?"
"Yeah... What?"
"Nina, did you see his face? He was hella cute!"
"I guess." Nina says in a secretly excited voice. Her cheeks start to blush.
They walk around and explore the mall. It's 4:45, and Nina decides to leave. "I think I'm going to leave."
"Okay. You got a ride?" Kaylie asks.
"No."
"Come on, my dad will drop you off."
"Thanks."
The car ride is silent the whole way there, except for the 80's music Kaylie's dad likes to listen to. They get to Nina's house.
"Thanks for the ride, I had fun today Kaylie."
"Bye Nina! I'll call you tomorrow."
Nina walks to her door and sees her mom making dinner. She's making steak and mashed potatoes with a side of corn. My brother is setting up the table and Stella is sleeping in the hallway. Nina goes upstairs to her room and drops her bags of things they bought at the mall. She goes downstairs and sits at the table. Her mom hands her a plate of food, and they all eat.
"So how was your day Zack?" Their mom asks.
"It was good, me and Nina went outside with Stella and then had a snack and watched some cartoons for a while. And then she went to the mall."
"What about yours Nina?" Her mom asks.
"Well, like Zack said, then went to the mall and hung out with Kaylie for a while and bought a few things, and that's about it."
"What about yours mom?" Zack asks.
"Well, same old same old. Just went to work and had to deal with my boss's bull crap, and had a couple of patients to work with, went out to lunch with my work friend Rochelle. Nothing special." Their mom gives them a little smile.
They finish their dinner and wash up. Zack gets ready for bed while Nina is doing the dishes. She finishes up and takes a seat on the couch and goes on her phone. She gets a text from Kaylie.
Kaylie: Hey! Wyd?
Nina: Not much, just finished the dishes.
Kaylie: Oh, I was wondering if you wanted to walk to the park and chill tomorrow?
Nina: Sure, I'll take my brother with. He hasn't been to the park in a while.
Kaylie: Okay. What time?
Nina: 2 If that works for you.
Kaylie: Sounds good!
Nina: Well I'm going to take a shower and go to bed. Goodnight! <3
Kaylie: Night! :^)
Nina gets in the shower and goes straight to bed. She can't seem to stop thinking about that boy she saw at the mall today. I wonder if I'll ever see him again, Nina thought, I need to see him again. She falls asleep, wondering when they will meet again.
