Chapter 2 : Arrangements

"So before we perform the impregnation" Dr. Falsgraft says "Let's go over the questionnaire to be sure we have what you asked for."

"It's the standard form for the 'Extra Package'. You should be very happy with it. It is definitely worth the extra money to upgrade from the 'Standard Package' and you folks are not the 'Economy Package' type. As you know, with the 'Extra Package' you can choose two talents and one trait. The rest are left up to what we like to call 'supervised' fate.

"Are you quite sure that you don't want to upgrade to the 'Ultimate Package'? You have a much better chance to get someone like former 'President Cumberbatch'. Who, as you know, was one of the most legendary presidents of all time.

Mr. and Mrs. Alpha smile at each other and both shake their heads. "That is way out of our price range" Jake says with a sigh.

"Ok! So it says here that talents you have chosen for your child are empathy and leadership. The trait you have chosen is intelligence. Correct?" They nod still sort of overwhelmed by the fact that what they had waited for for so long was actually happening!

"Ok looks like everything is in order. We have added a bit of DNA for the both of you so... oh, you didn't indicate whether you want a boy or a girl here."

"We decided we want it to be a surprise. Can we do that?" Rachel asked. They want it to be as close to natural as possible. Her grandmother told her that one of the things that she missed during an ultrasound (she had been a nurse for fifty years) was the look on the parent's face when they found out. Rachel wanted that for herself and her husband.

"Let's see here..." Dr. Falsgraft says looking over the paperwork. "Ah yes it is an option under the 'Extra Package' although rarely exercised." Rachel beamed at her husband. They were so happy this is happening!

"So... as I was saying we have added a little bit of DNA from each of you into the 'pot' so that ah he or she... will have what people used to call a family resemblance."

"And then there is the disclaimer. If you do not get pregnant or loose the pregnancy we are in no way responsible and you will have to go back through the same process that got you here today. Including the fees, taxes and surcharges that you paid upfront beforehand. Don't worry Rachel" He says putting his hand on her knee, winking at her "we have a 98% success rating."

"Now if you will both please sign here... and here... and here... and..."
