Sailor's P.O.V.
*****************
I always thought I would end up with Jackson. I truly did. And then suddenly, out of the blue, Elena showed up, and I was suddenly invisible to him, becoming black and white in the world where he only saw her in color.
I don't resent her for it. Not one bit. Elena is one of my best friends now, and if everything had gone the way I had originally planned, I wouldn't have met Darren.
I remember the first time that the four of us went out together. As actual, real friends. Jackson, Elena, Darren, and me. It was the beginning of our summer vacation, Darren had come to visit, and we all drove down to the lake to hang out. We talked a whole lot, took a ton of pictures, and laughed until our sides hurt so much we couldn't stand up. For dinner, we ate the crappiest tacos from an old taco truck that was selling 25-cents a taco. We could have had better, but Darren insisted on paying for all of us, even though he was nearly broke. That was all he could afford.
After throwing away half our meals, we walked to the ice cream stand and stuffed ourselves full with various flavors of the amazingness. We probably bought at least three of every flavor the poor ice cream man had. Once it got dark, all four of us walked out to the end of the dock, and jumped. I remember the water being so cold that I couldn't feel my toes, and I desperately swam back to shore in search for the warmth of dry land.
We spent the rest of the night under the stars, with the blankets and sleeping bags we had brought with us. I don't think I'll ever forget that night, nor will I ever forget the people there with me. I don't think only Jackson brought only Elena light. I believe we all were searching for it, and we didn't realize that we wouldn't find what we were looking for until we all stepped out of our comfort zones, out of the darkness, and into the light.
Together.
