Ever since the Great Mist, as the citizens name it, cautionary alarms have been set up throughout the city. To be more explicit, three types of cautionary alarms have been installed. The first one, the warning alarm, serves as a notice for an upcoming danger. The authorities alleged that once the first alarm blares, all must evacuate their current locations and head to The Vacuity: A vast space of limitless empty glass ground that stretches to the East borders of The City of Glass.
This opening can contain each and every citizen of Elentiya. They claim that if all residents are enclosed in one region, they can all be secure. The second cautionary alarm is called the instability alarm. The word 'instability' symbolizes the unsteadiness and agitated feeling one has at a time of peril. As by this time any individual who has not made it to The Vacuity would undeniably suffer some injuries. The final alarm: The Quietus Trap. Signifies definite death to any being that is not within The Vacuity.
I hugged my white fur-trimmed leather jacket tighter around my frame, as I neared the entrance to The Vacuity. Up ahead, clusters of people were being organized into columns by military automatons. On the glass ground, glowing arctic-blue strips of light were activated. These lambent lines created a path that led to the inside of The Vacuity.
" Cyrenaica!" a voice yelled my name.
I twisted my head to the direction of the voice. A man with a short stubble and untidy grown-out hair approached me. It was my father. After my mother passed away two years ago, my father decided to go on a retreat. "A change of scenery." he had said. That being the case, he resigned from his profession as a technologist and left Elentiya. I have not seen him since then.
" Father!" I shouted as I sprinted up to him.
He engulfed me in a strong warmhearted embrace. Mountains of questions began to circulate throughout my mind; however, I pushed them all to the back of my head.
" How've you been?" I asked as we headed towards the knot of citizens.
" Uh you know, the usual. Slightly better to be honest."
" Well, that's good to hear." I replied smiling earnestly.
As we neared the commotion, fragmented words and sentences were hurled through the air
"...first time the alarm goes off ..."
"Hurry through the door..."
"Light...enchanting..."
"For maximum eye protection against strong lights, it is advised to wear Solar Shades."
The military automatons said as they distributed outsized, obsidian solar shades. I eyed the automaton beforeme. His appearance resembled that of a fit human being. A white uniform, withtwo jet-black streaks running diagonally from the rightmost top shoulder toabove the left leg, clung to its humanoid frame. It stepped forward andtransfixed its gaze on to my face. For a moment, it seems to be frozen. Its eyes, dull and vacant bored into mine. Unexpectedly, the lens within its eye began to refocus and in a flash a broad smile etched its way on its face.
