It was Sunday afternoon
When I heard my mommy cry
I was only five
And did not know just why
As I walked down the hall
I saw the hugs and the tears
They were trying to hide it
But on their faces I saw their fears
They knelt down beside me
And said we have some news you see
Daddy has to go away
To protect our family
Daddy is the bravest man
Me and mommy will ever know
It was still very hard
Watching daddy go
Now daddy is fighting for freedom
In a land far away
I think, dream and pray for him
Each and every day
The nights were lonely
And the days very long
And just as daddy asked me
I stayed really strong
It was a bright August day
When mommy got the call
Daddy would be coming home
When the leaves begin to fall
Now I am standing at attention
As daddy passes by
Standing proud and strong
Trying not to cry
I raised my hand in a salute
To the man I dearly Love
See Jesus came to get my dad
And take him up above
As the 21 shots rang out
And they lowered his body below
I found it very hard
Watching daddy go
