Safe and Sound//Jasper Hale[4]

CHAPTER 5

"we need to find a way to get some food into her system." Esme says looking at Bella as she lays back down.

"if only i could see the fetus..." Alice muses.

"the baby." Rosalie corrects.

"maybe i could figure out what it wants." Alice continues. Jake looks at her.

'its probably looking for something to sink its teeth into.' i hear Jake comment in his head. i roll my eyes and block him out.

"think you might be right." Edward says to Jake. "jacob just had an idea" he tells everyone.

"more like a snarky comment, but alright." i murmur. 

"it wasn't an idea, it was a snide comment." Jake says.

"what were you thinking?" Carlisle asks.

"that its probably just looking for someone to sink its teeth into." Jake replies. all the vampires look at him. they were all hungry, the human parts left a day ago and im so tired from healing Bella that they realized that they could be hungry until the wolf problem died out.

"he's thirsty." Bella says. 

"i know the feeling." jasper says.

"if its craving, its not gonna want animal blood." Edward says.

"i have some O negative laid out for Bella." Carlisle says moving to where he keeps it.

"walk with me." i tell jasper. i stand up as his eyes follow Carlisle's and i grab his hands and pull him with me. we walk to his room on the other side of the house so he can't smell the blood.

"how did you know?" he asks as we lay down in the bed. 

"i was thirsty, and i figured you would be even more." what was once an easy task of keeping my diet human, was now nearly impossible. i healed Bella only to the extent where i could keep my thirsty side a little bit human and so i could make both me and jasper fall asleep.

"thank you." he says as he caresses my hand.

"well you sound better." charlie says on the other side of the phone.

"i feel much better." Bella says. the blood had worked and i could already see the difference in Bella.

"this whole thing must have put a kink in the honeymoon, Hun?" he says as Edward enters the room with a cup of blood. i tense before relaxing when i dont feel the scorching pain of thirstiness. it seems now that Bella is better i dont have to heal her so much and it seems being human has become less impossible.

"you could say that." Bella says as she twirls a thread in her hand. 

"other wise, married life treating you okay?" charlie asks. "Edward still walks on water and all that?"

Edward stops at the door frame.

"yeah, but, i mean, it is different now." Bella says.

"the important thing is that your better. and that your coming home soon, right?"

"okay dad, i dont want you to freak out," a tear rolls down her face and i grab her hand and give it a comforting squeeze. "but im going to a medical center in Switzerland."

"what?" and charlie starts to freak out. "no, no, you're not. you're not going to Switzerland. what are you... you said you were better. "

"i am."

"no, Bella, no. im getting on a plane. no."

"no. its really more of a spa." a spa, really? a spa?! "and im sure id be better by the time you got there anyway."
